Has anyone else got an analogue MTB alongside your EMTB - that you actually use!?

I have, but I must admit I’ve not used it for many months and have forgotten about it.

So tonight I took Pinkie out to do a lap of Llandegla Red and Black trails. She is a Specialized Enduro with c.170mm travel and rocking Öhlins forks.

Normally I’d be sessioning the hell out of the black runs on the Levo with most of my body taking endless compression / hits from the descents.

Tonight was a SLOG! I spent most of my time spinning away at what felt like snails pace. I didn’t necessarily feel I got a more taxing cardio session, it was about the same. However, instead of doing a mix of riding it was mainly just turning the cranks trying to get to the start of the next descent.

Positives were how nimble, light and playful it felt. Also zero effort to get some decent air on the jumps.

In summary, sometimes you take things for granted. I always remember my first outing on an EMTB and feeling ‘shocked’ at how much of a game changer it was. Over time my senses have been desensitised somewhat and it has just become normal. I think a stop gap to jump on the analogue bike sometimes might be healthy to appreciate what we have access to.

It is truly game changing - don’t forget that!

Cool pics.

Yeah, I have a lightweight (~24 lbs) full suspension XC bike alongside my Fuel EXe.

Because the weight difference is significant, riding the XC bike does not feel like a slog, but when I get tired, I’ll slow down on the analogue bike and that’s when I’ll “juice up” (up the power on) the Trek!

I like mixing it up. I find alternating the two makes me appreciate the attributes of the other more.

Great - I think I will be getting out more on the Enduro.

I have a Stumpy HT Comp that’s 17 year old and I still ride it when I’m with the grandkids. It’ll be at Centre Parks again in September.
I have ridden the bike almost every where I’ve ridden the Great Whyte (but a hell of a lot slower) can’t believe what a coward I’ve turned into though…..the Stumpy is as light as a feather and on 1.95 Maxxis Ignitor tyres grip is not at a premium but back in the day it was the bees knees and I loved it, still do and I’ll never sell it

I bet it’s a snappy little thing and feels completely different to the EMTB. You have to love a Stumpy!

Snappy and precise, line choice with only 100 mm travel (Fox Float RL) was important, sharp as tack though and great fun……you have to love a stumpy 🤣
I have considered fitting a Bafang mid drive unit but that would be sacrilege

What was a watch before quartz battery powered versions were released?
Ummmm... A watch. Analogue v digital was when they replaced the arms for a digital screen.

None the less I hate the term. For me its mountain bike or e bike.

But I too love a to ride the mountain bike aswell. So playful, so much fun on the downs.

What do you call a watch now?

Pub bike - half as old as me, owned from new. Only original parts are the frame and the little plastic tubes over the cables on the top tube

And general duty hardtail that gets ridden fairly often.

Thinking of building up a titanium 29'er this year

It hasn't, but it's easier to know which one is being referred to.
So what's wrong with calling it an mtb ( as it's always been known ) and an emtb ( which is how we know electric bikes ..and the name of this forum )..I also detest the use of analogue....although certain mates use the term purposely to wind me up 🤬...
Oh ...and don't get me started on the fucking term .... acoustic 😤.....Grrrrr.

Regarding the mtb ..strictly speaking I had gifted this to my son ..but he has outgrown it it terms of height & weight ..and being a 20yr old Uni student living ( not too far away ) in Newcastle has other non sporting activities to keep him entertained ..so sadly my 2017 Whyte T130rs sits forlornly in the shed totally unused for nearly three years 😢...

Because an e-bike can also be an MTB 😂

Honestly just interchangable terms, it's not worth getting stressed out with it.

Analogue annoys me, because people who use it don’t refer to e-bikes as ‘digital bikes’.

‘analogue’ is less annoying than ‘acoustic’ thou 😂

Nomenclature tangents aside, I still love riding my mountain bike:

I frickin love my 'analogue' DH bike. It was epic on the recent morzine trip.
I took my kenevo also but preferred the DH bike.

If there is an uplift, whether trailer or chairlift, I'll be on the DH bike.
For non uplift UK spots I'll be on the kenevo.
I'm certainly not pushing an analogue bike uphill, nor doing a pedally type ride on one these days.

Hadn't ridden my MTB (hardtail) since I got the EMTB almost a year ago. Brought it out last month on a trip to a trail system where e-bikes are prohibited. Rode fine but i did miss the 29" wheels since this one is just 27.5. The lighter weight was nice. For flat asphalt/gravel trails I use a drop bar gravel bike. Is quite a workout keeping up with a friend on his Powerfly.

Nothing wrong with that however my group call both a MTB because they are both mountain bikes.
