2022 Winter gear.

Curious to see what us northern hemisphere shredders are getting in for Winter? I'm in the market for a decent pair of gloves & can't work out which way to go there. Otherwise, dusting off the waterproof Fox pants & base layers. You lucky summer's coming guys can take a smoko.

Just looking at some waterproof gear for winter, decathlon stuff is apparently quite well rated.

While the air conditioning is still trying to keep the temperature below 26*c, (28-30*c today) , I’m reminded that cooler, darker and wetter weather is coming.

Just looking at some waterproof gear for winter, decathlon stuff is apparently quite well rated.

There high end hiking stuff is good, and well priced.

I have found that repurposing items from their other departments works well - for example I have been using this rugby training top of theirs recently, which is great for dreary days but not full on rain storms. Cracking bit of kit for 25 quid, and designed for rolling around in the mud!

We had our first October snowfall in 50 years yesterday (1-3cm at sea level, windchill around -6c) but this weekend is back into the 20c range so hopefully thats the last of winter.

Almost thought I had to break out the Merino and wet weather gear again

With the desire to ride less .. you all need to spend more time using the new forum functions - like a profile background ! So when you hover over a user - you get an extra image (don't tell bambam, it will be naked ladies) .

Ah yes ... Totally agree that Merino stuff seems great (Decathlon again do a couple of bits which seem to work really well). Even when wet, you stay warm and the temperature regulation just seems "far superior" - sorry, put it in quotes as it sounds like b-crap, but it is !

That said, I like the look of Rob's vest ! (I never thought I'd say that about a man.)

Some old but still waterproof Montane Event jacket and trousers (thanks Nikwax). Some Aldi fleece trousers with built in chamois. Fleece skull cap (Aldi again). Sealskinz waterproof socks. 100% Brisker gloves. Various merino and bamboo baselayers. Montane softshell.

By coincidence dug my winter stuff out this morning. All good no need to invest (aka waste) money on new stuff. Although saying that a few weeks ago did buy some last years mid length 5ten trail cross mid length thingies which were on sale.

I have just bought a waterproof jacket from Outdoor Clothing & Equipment | Mountain Warehouse GB who have some good quality outdoor gear at reasonable prices.

RRP £80, £35 in their sale.

I stayed on the cheap end and ride with a base layer, a medium thermal and then a waterproof jacket. I have older specialized layered lobster gloves and throw a hand warmer in them when it gets really cold. For my legs I have an insulated waterproof layer. Wool socks and waterproof shoes. It will get me about an hour ride before I start getting cold. Took an old schwalbe tire and cut it up to try it out. I look like a good ball but I’m usually the only one out.

Underarmour cold gear top and leggings. Sealskinz socks. 100% Briskers.

If it's dry, Endura Singletrack trousers and the jacket, if wet, MT500 spray trousers.

Swap the Assegai/DHR out for Shorties and prepare to swear about bringing the battery indoors from the garage.. I normally ride my enduro more than the eeb during the winter, just less faff.

I use Mechanix Mpact 2 gloves . Usually about £20 take a good bit of rain before they are soaking . I bought gore shorts well made but very flimsy and very expensive. Also have army surplus goretex trousers cut to shorts not so comfy but cheap as chips and bombproof. Always used shimano leather boots if really wet put on hillwalking ankle gaiters . Enduro tights without bib have about 4 pair so no panic washing. Cheap jacket Peter storm . Find I need a good thermal top as you are not putting so much effort in on Ebike. Buff is handy too. Flask of tea. I look a wally but I rarely meet anyone where I go and always solo. Some great kit out there but I like something that can be washed easily and often. Fancy goretex jacket and trousers does not like being washed three tines a week in my experience.

Amazing how such a simple thin piece of material can keep you so warm, and easy to put in the pocket once I start to get a bit sweaty. Plus I get to ride whilst looking like a nutter, win win

Absolutely rate my Leatt 5.0 pants from last season. They run small in size but I’ve found them to be totally waterproof. Tapered ankle with velcro straps stops water running in to the top of my equally waterproof Five Ten Gore Tex boots

Bike specific Buffalo shirt pretty much year round, with the exception of the warmest weather, but as im in Scotland, we only get 4 days of that.. Just depends what i wear under it. Warm- nowt or a t shirt, colder long sleeved t shirt, through to t shirt,fleece jumper of varying weights.
Extremely wet, I've araceface Aquanot waterproof shell I put over the top.
W/P trousers never seem to last and I like a tight leg there so £20 BTWin are the order of the day.

I wear Under Armour Cold Gear leggings, long sleeve shirt, gloves and socks under my normal Fox MTB riding gear and Fox Winter Jacket and have no problems riding in 20 degree weather. Also use Under Armour Heat Gear in the summer.

I have 100% brisker gloves, but my hands are frozen in them! Now because of black friday deals, I'm thinking of getting Skinsealz all weather gloves with fusion control (whatever mumbo jumbo that is). I wonder if it's worthy those 12 eur extra over regular Skinsealz all weather gloves.

Also, what kinda mtb pants are good for winter riding, especially commuting? Do your legs and nuts freeze in regular waterproof pants?

I bought skinzseal socks not that impressed with them to be honest but more for pacrafting than cycling. Just bought neoprene socks yesterday I should have tried them out today as feet were wet and getting cold. I have Altura road waterproofs they are OK. Also came across a new pair of Endura waterproof trousers in shed a few weeks ago that never fitted me for probably 15 years been on twice I think . Lost weight so they fit me now. Not very fitting a lot of these things really I find.
