The Trail.
Morning all,

I'm looking to buy a Levo over the next few months but wondering if I should hold off until the 2021 comes out (possibility of Fox 38, Mahle motor, improved battery etc)

Does anyone have any semi-educated guesses around when we can expect the 2021 Levo? I'd be gutted to buy the 2020 and then for a similar price the new model comes out a month later!

Cheers, Andy

We are pretty in the dark right now, though a lot of us are speculating that we may see a more powerful version of the Mahle motor used in the Levo SL make its way into Specilizeds Ebikes at some point, but maybe not next year. I doubt you would see a Fox 38 on a Levo, whilst its possible to fit one, given its a 150mm bike out the box I would expect them to stick with 150mm 36/RS forks.

I would like to see a model that sits between the Levo and Kenevo, something like a Stumpjumper Evo version of the Levo

There will be no Mahle motor in 2021 Levo.

The Levo as it stands with the 2.1 is likely on a three year cycle so you may be right but given how quickly the industry is moving I’d bet numbers for a third year would be low if true. But then, that’s why there’s an SL and a Kenevo. I personally think they need to jump on the Mahle for this coming model year though. However, we’re in a bubble on this forum where we see the Brose failures and are also quite critical in our appraisal of ebikes. We’re not necessarily representative of the wider market.

Not that Specialized would release the data (which must exist) but it would be very interesting to see global failure rate of the Brose 2.1. It might actually serve to re-assure this forum!

Close to ordering a levo comp. Have come to my senses about the Kenevo being too little playfull for my liking and local trails. Love it though. I want to change the Levo to 27,5 front and rear

I want to change the Levo to 27,5 front and rear and raise the fork to 170mm. Possibly lover the seat tube angle later. Trying to make a Lenevo ;-) any thoughts?

I’m going to swap mine when I get it to a 160mm fox 36, think the max fork length is 160mm but not sure whether you could cause damage on big hits with anything longer.

Ive got a 170mm fox36 on my Yeti SB5 which comes with a 140mm iirc and its great, can pretty much hit most things so I like what youre saying! An odd side effect is the bike wont stand still, you lean it against something and it just starts rolling around, think its the centre of gravity is messed up...

I think with 27.5”’s it would work but the motor might be too low (?) and the speed sensor would be out. Worth a try though if youve got some spare wheels.

Worth noting that fork length is different for a given travel between 27.5 and 29 forks. If switching to 27.5 and using 29 forks then you should factor this in.

It sure seems moisture is a huge factor in system failure. With the UK being a hot spot for e bikes I can't help but wonder what the breakdown is between wet climate vs dry climate failure.
