New Nicolai with Pinion gearbox announced

Interesting bike with a super interesting motor/gearbox. On my short test ride with the MGU (different bike) I thought it was embarrassingly loud with unpolished gear changes. The advantages of the system are so huge that I hope the sound is different in the Nicolai frame (and other frames) than...

Have we got any real world weights on the new Rise?

My LT M10 is 20.6 kg. Size large. Maxxis Minions, tubes, large battery, Fox dropper, alu wheels, some SLX drivetrain parts. Handlebar is even alu (should be carbon, backordered). So apart from the carbon frame no "lightweight" parts at all.

2025 rise sl or lt in your collection yet?

Some comments: consider the larger battery, at 20% SoC the bike goes into limp mode (probably eco or thereabouts). I think this is way too soon, Shimano or Orbea (not sure who made that daft decision) should have waited until 5% or 10% SoC. I'm liking the Float X shock, just leave it like you...

I have the M10 LT in large. 178cm. Feels fine. Go with the large.

Shimano EP801 power limit below 20% battery state of charge

I think the red light is enough indication that I should consider preserving the battery to reach home, not be forced into eco. I've had 10+ ebikes, this is actually the first time I've been bothered by it. Could it be that the other manufacturers goes into limp-mode at a more sensible 5 or 10%...

Shimano EP801 power limit below 20% battery state of charge

Sure - there is some reduction in voltage from the battery, but the big reduction in power I am seeing is like I'm changing from Boost to Eco and it happens at exactly 20% so this is done by software either by Shimano or Orbea.

Shimano EP801 power limit below 20% battery state of charge

Somewhere between 20-25% SOC I can start feeling that the power is reduced. Not exactly sure at what % but a bit before the mode controller goes from green to red (the E-Tube app isn't helpful either as it only shows 10% increments). At below 20% the power is severely reduced. Is this specific...

EP801 low frequency vibration through pedals in Turbo mode.

Same here but only noticeable in turbo on very low cadences.

2025 ZF Bike Eco System - New Motor!

Agree, sounds clever. A clutch could also be beneficial down the line if/when they add a gearbox to the motor. Or even a dual clutch design like in cars.

Gearbox EMTB's that you can buy (+IGH bikes)

Adding Owuru propulsion module for eBike by E2 Drives to the list. 265% gear range is not great, though.

Levo Gen 3 Levo Gen 4 2024 Rumours... And assorted random chat ....

You're probably thinking about the big heavy Nicolai bike. With the same build as a normal lighter bike, I think there's about a 1-1.5 kg difference. Maybe add a couple hundred grams to beef up the frame to take the heavier motor/gearbox unit, plus some added battery cells to make up for any...

    Dji avinox

With that much power, what is the max assistance %? If it's 400% like Shimano, you need to put in 250 watts to max out the motor. @Rob Rides EMTB , did DJI say anything about this?

2025 rise sl or lt in your collection yet?

Btw, I love that the cables run through the headset. Much cleaner. The mode selector is cabled (not wireless like the new Bosch), but the cable runs inside the handlebar. Same for the Di2 XT shifter if you spec that.

2025 rise sl or lt in your collection yet?

Here's some photos. The pink color is growing on me. I also had a 2021 Rise M10. Both size L. The new one is a little harder to lift the front end, probably because (as you say) longer and slacker, but the battery is also more heavy. Keep in mind I run mine in the slack mode, it's really easy...

2025 rise sl or lt in your collection yet?

I've had mine (M10 LT, large battery) for a couple of weeks. Had to settle for a pink one as it was the only one left, but the color is quite nice - not a "barbie" pink at all. 85 Nm torque and 400% assistance is great for a relaxed ride at lower cadences. You will run into the power limit when...

Comment by 'TorAtle' in article 'The new 2025 Orbea Rise - my wish come true?'

Without pedals, stock alu wheels, alu handlebar (waiting for stock carbon one to arrive), Fox Transfer dropper (175 mm, waiting for 200 mm to arrive - both these are probably heavier than some other droppers). As the new one starts at 16.3 kg, it is light with the right components. Fwiw, the...

Comment by 'TorAtle' in article 'The new 2025 Orbea Rise - my wish come true?'

Had my first ride today. I can confirm that the motor is more powerful than last years model, it now feels close to full power emtbs. Unfortunately it is also a bit on the heavy side - 20.6 kg (size L, M10 with big battery, Maxxis Minions with tubes). Ideally I'd like to shave off a kg, but I...

Comment by 'TorAtle' in article 'The new 2025 Orbea Rise - my wish come true?'

Got to see the new Rise yesterday. Looks good, but so does the current one IMO. Dealer has a few unspoken for bikes which is available later this month. Disregarding the elevated prices for now, I'm really not in love with either of the launch colours. There's a toned-down pink one, a sparkly...

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

I'm guessing it's from the straight cut gears since it's pretty silent in gears 9-12, but I can't say for sure. What you hear in the EMBN video is how I remember it. I have owned emtbs with Brose, Mahle, Shimano, Bosch and TQ. This Pinion MGU is the loudest of them all. It's not an ear-friendly...
