I had a problem with my brakes and found that the gap between the top of the motor and the frame had squashed the hose, sounds like you need to pull the motor out and check.
The Bafang motor has narrower mounting lugs, I made them using 3mm aluminium plates, I would say you need make them suit your frame but it’s pretty easy to nut out.
I run a Bafang M510 in a Shimano frame using adapters, the M510 is smaller than the Shimano E8000 so it wasn’t to hard to retro fit.
36V you should be able to use the same battery.
It’s likely to be bearing failure due water ingress not the gear.
I suggest you should strip the motor down to avoid bigger problems with corrosion.
The bearings should be available from a local bearing shop.
You tube if you have the skills to do it yourself as it’s not diffcult.
Have you
a) Checked you have voltage at the motor
b) Connect the display you have mounted on the handle bars directly the cable going to the motor, hold the start switch under the the up / down toggles for a few seconds as it takes a while to start up.
Heavy old batteriies?
I understood that all manufacturers still the same cells 18650 or 21700?
Both are 3.8 - 3.9 g/Wh
Are there new cells that are better than this?
I have been thinking of building a intergraded battery in the frame as I wrap the batteries I build in carbon anyway, it means you can reduce weight, it’s stronger and the down tube is sleek.
Obviously the down side if you have a battery or bms problem you have to cut the frame, but I have had...
I have a Light Carbon LCE 930, I recommend this frame and Bafang M820 motor

I have a Bafang M510 and a M820 motor, I used a speed fun dongle for a year or so and had no problems.
I discovered that you can change the factory setting to 60km.
I have large frame and use a 150 reverb, it works for me, my preference is going downhill with the seat low as possible. 170 might be on the long side but it depends on your leg length and preference
