    Energypak 500/625 Wh issue

Yes, you can use a different charger. The BMS has a maximum current limit built in. Use the large 2 pins coloured red + and black - the 3 small pins are Canbus signalling for the 60% storage feature that few people ever use. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/326294782133

Giant GLI270 6A EnergyPak 5 pin charger tear down / repair / fuse replace

Measure the output voltage and if not 42v it's cactus. Cut the 5 pin cable off the charger and connect the +/- red black wires to any 42v / 4A charger. You don't need the Canbus communications to charge the battery.

Giant GLI180 4A EnergyPak 5 pin charger tear down

Late to the party.... again. The fact you are only getting 34.5v on the secondary, not 41.8v could indicate component failure on the second stage output. Not familiar with the 5 pin XLR chargers, if in fact they are Canbus protocol. Is that mentioned on the daughter board anywhere ? You...

    32kph for Australia

You only need a helmet when you need it, you only need a seat belt when you need it. Personal responsibility is up to each of us based on risk and yes, if I was riding high risk situation, I would wear appropriate gear. Good to hear it worked for you... in that situation. I hope you weren't...

    32kph for Australia

Australia leads the world in 'nanny legislation' including helmet laws which stifle bicycle uptake. Look at EU, Japan, China, SE Asia where cycling dominates transportation. I don't wear a helmet and Police are too busy doing domestic violence call outs, around 80% of their workload than...

Giant GLI180 4A EnergyPak 5 pin charger tear down

Sorry, bit late. The 4A charger only has an input fuse on the 120/240v high side. There is no fuse on the 42v output on the units I teared down. The 6A charger does. Any 4A/6A charger will work but ensure it is a charger not a power supply as the charger will recognise the voltage / current...

    Giant Energypak BMS reset

Many battery 'problems' are related to chargers. Firstly check the LED sequence on the Giant charger at start up, RED - GREEN - RED. If the charger detects zero volts or +42v it assumes there is no battery connected or the battery is full. Measure the battery voltage and measure the charger...

    Review 2021 Reid E-Trail 2.0

You might consider a derailleur guard to help minimise total destruction. Buy a few as they are cheaper to replace. Just ordered a near new second hand Deore RD-M6000 for $50 to replace Mr Clunky Altus.

Giant 6a smart charger solid red led

Common for charger RED LED to remain on when connected to fully charged battery. In theory, one is expecting solid GREEN LED when fully charged, but this only happens end of charging cycle and not when re-connected. Many owners suspect dead charger when the GREEN LED does not flash indicating...

    Review 2021 Reid E-Trail 2.0

The Ananda R&D and manufacturing facilities were impressive, plus new factories in Vietnam. Bafang and Ananda will do to Bosch, Shimano and Yamaha what BYD did to Tesla. From the sounds of the Ananda marketing man, 'bigger brands are talking to us" you might see more brands using Ananda OEM...

    Review 2021 Reid E-Trail 2.0

When I pulled the M100 out of frame, the two casings are well sealed. All wiring connections are behind left hand cover. The JST plugs and sockets are waterproof with rubber grommets. The main battery connectors are well insulated. Don't be worried about water going down the seat tube, it...

    Giant Fathom E+ 29 (2022) Battery + Paint

The battery cover which attaches to the battery is made of black plastic, and as we all know paint on plastic isn't an exact chemical science. The marks are around the curves which is the most common part for flecking. The stupid plastic cover costs a bomb to replace too. Happy to take that...

Giant Phone App Update 4-2024 cluster

They may be taking a leaf out of the Apple book, and programming the battery for an early demise so you will update your bike or buy a new outrageously expensive battery. But unlike an iPhone, you CAN replace the battery !

Giant Phone App Update 4-2024 cluster

In AU I understand a Federal import rule enforces importers (manufacturers) to restrict speed to 25kph or they cannot be sold. I suspect skateboards and scooters same. The controllers ex-factory may be set to that limit, and somewhere in the 'manual' may show how to change that limit. It is...

    Giant Trance X E+ 1 Light Wiring

Some frames have a second 36v JST (red) female socket alongside the 6v JST female light connector. Socket is marked "batt V". The circuit is hot and not switched. You can use this with multi voltage 12-48v aftermarket lights, but need inline switch or plug and play as you go. I made up an...

Ride evo 2 in 1 display

Probably a bit late by now, but earlier Giant's used RideControl One / ANT+ as sole protocol from controller to motor. Newer bikes use CANBUS protocol via Smart Gateway unit which does all the communication. That box sits beside the motor bottom RHS. The dreadful Giant app will report what...

    Review 2021 Reid E-Trail 2.0

The speed sensor plugs directly into the M100 motor which has a bank of JST sockets which are soldered to the motherboard and then epoxy glued through a 'window' behind LHS plastic motor cover. Not a bad setup actually. Easy access for diagnostics and modifications. Only issue, if board needs...
