Not necessarily "better late than never" response, however I"d suggest a rather clean surface with a bit of water to provide the best seal...certainly don't want the $5k to $10k bike falling off the roof into the following traffic! No problems with 2 Levo's mounted at 70 mph on the freeway.
Thanks for all of your helpful information Bearing Man, and do you attribute the amount of problematic Brose motors to the popularity of the Specialized brand and quantity of e-bikes sold or does this water intrusion problem occur on other manufacturers motors on a similarly proportional basis...
My seatpost is extended just like that with 4" from the top of the clamp collet to the top of the outer tube and, yes, I am an orangutan. The frame seems to be dealing with the cantilever load ok but I did fracture a frame seat tube on another bike by not having a seatpost long enough...lesson...
You may be able to resolve some of the paint abrasion by heating the plastic guards and forming a curve to minimize contact points. It also creates a more rigid form with the curve.
