I wear a 3-layer Leatt Hydra Dri 5 mtb jacket and for me it cuts the mustard as a breathable outer shell in the winter as well as a stand-alone piece in the shoulder seasons. Some thoughtful touches like a magnet to secure the hood when it’s not in use to a climb vent connector which is just a...
I hear ya, Bill. It might even be warm enough to swap those mitts for lightweight mtb gloves. Ok, maybe I’m feeling a bit overzealous about the forecast.
Couldn’t think of a better place to lean my ride. Just wish it was my own workbench.
Then there are those times when there’s just nuttin’ to lean on.
Recently celebrated my 63rd and typically ride all year round. I devote most of my time to analog road rides during the warmer months but like to mix it up with a few killer singletracks on the Levo. Summers here are spectacular and winters aren’t too shabby either.
My wife is quite happy with her Garmin Fenix 6S Standard which is specifically made for people with smaller wrists. She intentionally wanted a watch that didn’t look overwhelming and this is coming from a person who had never worn a timepiece her entire life. It monitors her every metric from...
Calgary and Edmonton always seem to be a few degrees warmer but you’re spot on about the Chinooks being nature’s gift to those who live further south. We also receive our share of the warming winds but because we are located in a river valley cold air tends to pool on most days so Red Deer...
Seems like the entire country was in the deep freeze at some point in time. We’re expected to reach a high of +8C by next week and that would be considered down right balmy for January.
We actually broke the old record of -38C set back in 2005. At the time I posted the temp above, it actually dropped down a few hours later to -44.3 which eventually ended up being the record! I’m so relieved that is all behind us now and look forward to the warmer week that’s ahead of us. We...
We endured some extremely dangerous wind chill values this month but none worse than on this day. I guess that it was a form of payback for the unseasonably mild conditions that we received back in December. It doesn’t matter whether it’s centigrade/Fahrenheit, it’s all the same when the mercury...
I took to the groomed Nordic ski trails but had something else in mind besides skiing. Let a few psi out of the Wrathchilds and let er rip.
Then aired up the tires prior to the ride back to home base.
Footage look great from where I sit. That’s an awesome trail and it’s tough to beat winter night rides particularly when you have the appropriate tires. Cool knowing that we have the exact same spec'd fat bikes right down to the wrap.
I spent part of Tues morning on the ski hill. Actually, it...
I came from a Niterider Pro 3600 and light performance was decent, loved the handy thumb remote but the bulky battery pack that was attached to the top tube was a bit of a downer. I sold it, moved on and acquired the more streamlined Outbound system. Clipping in and out of the unobtrusive...
I love snow too but the frigid conditions I could do without. We had overnight values here plunge as low as -50C a week ago that pretty well shut down all outdoor activities including schools and even the ski hills. It was brutal.
Another vote for Outbound lights. I have the Evo/Hangover combo and love the beam spread and illumination that they bring to the night. The mounting system is superb.
Thanks. Studs certainly go a long way in providing the bite on ice and hardpack during the grueling winter season here. We just endured a week-long cold spell that saw dangerous record-breaking wind-chill values that affected much of the province. Once the polar vortex loosened its grip...
Rode an out and back on the Moraine Lake Highline Trail in Banff National Park. It was a bit of an effort to get there but the reward was clearly evident.
