eMTB deniers, not so much as haters, funny when they come around.

I own/operate a bike shop in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Mt Rushmore, Devil's Tower, Deadwood, Custer, all that jazz. We've got loads of great trails, two track, dirt roads, rail trails. It's puzzling to have these common interactions with avid life long cyclists that are sort of a...

    Range extended

No doubt the screws would not all make it back with a trail side swap!

    Range extended

I work at a bike shop, so I was able to order battery from Shimano and the cover from Santa Cruz. Your SCruz dealer should be able to get you what you need.

So what assist level is everyone using???

Using the free version of the STUnlocker app, I raised my boost on my eco mode a touch higher than what Shimano native app allows. Let's me ride eco a lot more on a typical solo ride when looking to extend range a bit. I leave Trail and Boost at "explorer" mode. When riding aggressively with...

    Range extended

I just bought a second 504 Shimano battery for my Santa Cruz Heckler. I just carry it in a hydration pack for long rides. It carries/rides fine in my Osprey pack. 504 handles the needs for 85% of my rides. For bigger rides, the extra battery is a quick swap.

    Shimano Steps Range extender-Norco

Anyone had a good look at a Norco Range extender for Shimano STEPS? Wondering if it would be plug and play for other STEPS equipped bikes.

KaBOOM! an Eruption of eMTB Interest

Agreed. I know there are real legal issues ahead, and I know that the funding and development of non-motorized trail systems before eBikes "blew up" will be problematic. And I full well understand that eBikes have a motor, and are motorized. As far as Class 1 bikes are concerned, I'd imagine...

KaBOOM! an Eruption of eMTB Interest

In my locale (Rapid City, SD) we have 30+ miles of single track in two parks right in town (one private, one City-owned) and our city opened the bike path to bikes. Plus our State Parks system allows eBikes on a local rail trail and all State-owned non-motorized single track. Our local BLM...

    New Categories of e-MTBs?

I’m a fan that eMTB are popping up with short stays and longer reach geometry! 140-160 travel, “full power” to the lighter end of the spectrum (SCruz Heckler, Pivot Shuttle, etc) or heavier but “real” trail geometry like KONA Remote 160. As that’s what is suited to my local trail riding...

Low cadence, low motor noise, low battery consumption?

I think electric motors are more efficient at "higher" cadences. So I'd suppose most eBike motors would be set up to run at normal cycling cadences. Can't say that's definitive, but seems running "low" chugging cadence would not be the way to maximize battery run time. What that cadence range...

    Yamaha YPJ-YZ E

I would guess Yamaha is having Giant produce the eBikes. Giant/Yamaha have partnered on eBikes since 1998 if I recall correctly. A little shine on both brands in the eMTB world would never hurt. The Yamaha-branded eBikes have not shown any direction towards innovation, but rather just another...

    Santa Cruz Ebike

Santa Cruz is GLOBALLY neck and neck with Specialized for the #1 spot of total sales in bicycles. Crazy as that sound. So no doubt eMTBs are on the radar as soon as possible. They could over take the big S, it is astounding they are that close without one. I recall once upon a time, Santa...

    Rocky Mountain Altitude Powerplay

Your closest Rocky Mountain Dealer ought to be able to get them. I've got a couple extras, but am in USA. Could mail. I think it is $40 or so? I'll try to get you the part number off the package.... You can not use a 32t ring, the torque sensing is built around 34t.

    Kona Remote 160

Kona’s got a bike worth looking at. Definitely real Trail Bike geometry in keeping with their Process series. Not very many eMTB truly this progressive in the geometry. Rides great. Fits 27+ or 29 widetrail. Rides great! Shimano drive. No doubt a bigger Shimano battery has to be in the...
