Fox 38 170mm or upgrade Zeb?

So JM. What did you do in the end? My own story has become bonkers. I ordered a 3.1 damper for the Zeb, but there was no sign of it arriving. So I had a mind meltdown and imported a 38 from Germany. It was supposed to be 170mm (same as my Zeb with smashpot), but when it arrived it was 180. i...

Fox 38 170mm or upgrade Zeb?

Yep. I hear that. In the end I'll have to try it for myself. Pity it is so costly.

Have you heard any real world feedback on 3.1?

Fox 38 170mm or upgrade Zeb?

I went from Zeb 160 to Zeb 170. There is no noticeable difference to my mind. I like the Zeb chassis but have struggled to make it work for my old body and riding requirements. So I fitted a smashpot that has helped with maintaining geometry but so far not helped with shoulder saving suppleness...

    Rockshox charger 3.1 upgrade

Will have a watch of the vid, but think you're approach sounds wise. Pity the full damper kit is so costly

    Rockshox charger 3.1 upgrade

Apologies. Found item you are talking about. Seems like I’d need a charger 3 damper and then be able to upgrade to 3.1 with the kit. My current damperis charger R so I’d have to buy the complete upgrade in any case.

    Rockshox charger 3.1 upgrade

Very interested in this for my Zeb. When you say 350 pounds full replacement - looking at on line sales that is described as the ‘charger 3.1 damper upgrade kit’. so what is the 75 pound kit you are referring to? could you add a link?

Hot melt wax - the journey begins

Well i got my first answer and it was a bit disappointing. 3 rides in 80km total and started getting chain noise, so ended up going for a rewax. Chain wear was reading 0.3mm prior to rewax. i subsequently read in a few places that ultasonic bath is not best way to remove initial factory grease...

Downduro Rig has been born (Page 4) ⚡️

Great story. Thanks for publishing. Mainly jealous of the man cave! Although I have to say that any man cave sofa should really have stuffing pouring out of it. And I really want to see the Audi with a bike rack. Terrific and interesting build with excellent details. Hope you love it.

Hot melt wax - the journey begins

I'm keen to understand criteria that instigate a re wax. I hear lots of chat about chain noise, but as I'm quite deaf that may be tricky. I guess there's a rough feeling in the drivetrain? I was wondering if it could be judged on wear?: measured a new chain, it had 0.25mm "wear". Waxed it and...

Hot melt wax - the journey begins

I saw my mates drivetrain yesterday which he does same approach as you and with same products. Have to say his chain looked as good as mine before we went riding. I guess to some extent with rewaxing you’re doing a big initial effort in a controlled environment instead of lots of smaller post...

Hot melt wax - the journey begins

It feels smooth. The grit doesn’t stick to the wax because it is hard. imagine if you rub grit on a candle and then wash it off. The nice thing is the jockey wheels, chain ring and cassette are also clean because there is no oil to glue the muck to them. Can’t speak for longevity yet and also...

Hot melt wax - the journey begins

Only been doing it a few weeks. 6 very wet and muddy rides in old South Wales and Forest of dean. It's a good test bench especially at this time of year. It's looking great so far. No longevity test obviously, but the cleanliness is so encouraging. I'd be very surprised if I go back to lube...

Hot melt wax - the journey begins

One thing I’ve found that is a royal pita and nobody mentions is the quick link. I saw a GCN vid where they waxed the link, so have been doing the same, but it is difficult to put back in the chain afterwards. Have to remove all the wax from the chain plates and from the link groove. I’m...
