My own story has become bonkers.
I ordered a 3.1 damper for the Zeb, but there was no sign of it arriving.
So I had a mind meltdown and imported a 38 from Germany. It was supposed to be 170mm (same as my Zeb with smashpot), but when it arrived it was 180.

I went from Zeb 160 to Zeb 170. There is no noticeable difference to my mind.
I like the Zeb chassis but have struggled to make it work for my old body and riding requirements. So I fitted a smashpot that has helped with maintaining geometry but so far not helped with shoulder saving suppleness...

I have fit 68 yo mate who is glad we all got eebs so we can keep up. Mind you his non eeeb is the most expensive in the group.
Apologies. Found item you are talking about. Seems like I’d need a charger 3 damper and then be able to upgrade to 3.1 with the kit. My current damperis charger R so I’d have to buy the complete upgrade in any case.

When you say 350 pounds full replacement - looking at on line sales that is described as the ‘charger 3.1 damper upgrade kit’.
so what is the 75 pound kit you are referring to? could you add a link?
Well i got my first answer and it was a bit disappointing. 3 rides in 80km total and started getting chain noise, so ended up going for a rewax. Chain wear was reading 0.3mm prior to rewax.
i subsequently read in a few places that ultasonic bath is not best way to remove initial factory grease...

It feels smooth. The grit doesn’t stick to the wax because it is hard. imagine if you rub grit on a candle and then wash it off. The nice thing is the jockey wheels, chain ring and cassette are also clean because there is no oil to glue the muck to them.

Only been doing it a few weeks. 6 very wet and muddy rides in old South Wales and Forest of dean. It's a good test bench especially at this time of year.
