Interesting points being made about QA etc for motors originating/manufactured in China. From my personal experience with ebikes. I have converted 2 x mtb's with Tongsheng TSDZ2 motors with Chinese batteries and had over 2K trouble free miles on the two original ones and still going strong after...
You would be hard pressed these days to not have or use anything in everyday life, yet alone emtb's that doesn't contain componets originating from China, so although a valid point about the regeim, it's a rather pointless argument as a reason to not buy the bike.
Had this been available earlier in the year, I would probably have bought this instead of my Trek Rail 5. Bafang excelent motors and make spares available for the mechanically adept owner to self fix/service/repair. Hopefully this will makes the other manufacturers take note. Already had a...
Yes there are now a number of newer toque sensing systems to convert exitisng frames. The one that sticks out for me is the CYC Photon but this is still new to the market and early adopters have reported some problems. If I were to do again I would definately consider one of these, especially...
The answer from me is still very much a YES. I have to confess that the Giant Trance that I originally converted is now back to analogue (as earlier this year I bought a Trek Rail 5 as I wanted to use the trance in Bike Park Wales and wanted a 29er ebike). I have however converted 2 x Trek...
For where and how you intend to use, I think you would be extremely unlikely to be stopped or prosecuted by police in rural areas. The problem is more based in town/city centres and riding through pedestrian precincts (which as I understand it is actually illegal on any bike anyway) so in...
Had s clicking on my new Trek Rail from 50mls in. Always as right crank reached 12 0 clock position and always at moderate load. Mtb monster fixed under warranty and said replacement motor fitted..seems to have fixed it.
I originally got my extended axle & kit from Eco-ebike.com ..(at the time of failure there was one in stock but postage to UK as much cost of item) I was fortunate that when mine sheard I was offered a 2nd hand one from a member on the Tongsheng FB page. He luckily happened to have an uneeded...
Good to know. The LBS that supplied my Rail 5 stressed the tyres were not Tubless Compatible but having read this thread may just give it a go and convert to Tubeless
Thanks - I hope you enjoy. You mention concern about the spindle on an extened crank and extra bearing is a must (though I see you have already done this). This is a weak spot arround the circlip groove and if you are using offroad, it will eventually shear (as I found out). Even on std 68mm BB...
Definitly thinking of doing this, started to consider buying one of the main brand ones recently but I like DIY and this looks more fun. Thanks Rob, I love the fact that unlike some other ebike Youtube channels, you are not afraid to take a serious look at DIY alternatives and give an honest...
I am assuming you mean the bolt at the back of the motor which is there to stop the motor rotating in the BB housing. It's not necessary if you tighten the crank ring bolt you very tight. I also rotated the motor forward onto the downtube (with some cushioning) so that it lhysically cannot...
I have used a TSDZ2 motor now on a full sus and done over 1k miles in 12 months and it's been brilliant. They are a very good conversion and flexible with chainring sizes
Thanks for the input. I guess I have been lucky as originally had 9 speed cassette and by good fortune the chainline seems pretty good. I certainly have no problems changing gears. I ride mostly trails so overheating doesn't seem to be a problem though I will be doing that mod at some point. If...
What I like most about conversion kit is their interchangeability. Eg batteries. Accepted that they tend not be as aesthetically pleasing but then more option become available as well as displays and motor systems
