I agree with Mike's points. I was bored when I looked at a variety of bikes to see what the sagged pedal clearance might be, but I was surprised to see how uniform it was. I totally agree that once you start riding then the clearance will be all over the place, but at least the starting point...
I have looked at a variety of different full suss bikes and if you take the centreline of the BB and drop it by 30% of the sag (25% for XC bikes), then measure up from the floor to the pedal centreline, the height you get is very consistent. This is why lots of bikes have shorter cranks, I...
@irie Thanks for that. I know what the technique is. But my puzzlement remains. How can a sealant that will seal big holes flow through a much smaller hole (the valve) without sealing it and stopping the fill process? Because that is where it stops for me, the sealant will just not go through...
In order:.....
Read the trail better.
Time your pedal turns.
Reduce the rebound damping on your suspension.
Don't have more than 30% sag.
Increase number of tokens in the suspension.
Shorter cranks.
Only the last one costs money.
(Well OK, the 2nd to last might cost a few quid if you don't...
I have never understood how sealants (irrespective of brand) are expected to go down the Presta valve hole, even with the core removed. The sealants are all sold as being able to seal a 6mm hole, much bigger than the hole down the valve.
I have tried and the only time I ever got a latex sealant...

Description This was my Grandson's Full-face helmet that I bought him in early 2018 and he has hardly used it. He used it to go to BPW once, locally a few times and then took up rugby...
Good man! Absolutely the right thing to do. Some would just ignore it and hope it would go quiet all by itself.
I had what I thought was a fault with my motor on my first ebike; it was not delivering the power it used to do. I was so convinced it was the motor that I didn't even look for...
I believe there may be a communication problem. Many people use the word "puncture" to mean when the tyre deflates (ie "flat"). But the correct meaning of puncture is a penetration of the tyre. You will be lucky to know how many times your tyre has been penetrated by thorns in 14,000 km, because...
After 1913 miles, mine is still silent. Well, maybe a slight rushing noise. The trail surface has to be just right to hear anything.
I have had many other riders saying how quiet it is. There is a slight metallic tinkle when coasting over rough ground, but I have to concentrate to hear it.
In...
The above comment was made 18 months ago when I'd had my first 70Nm emtb for 16 months. I would now say infrequently, but when I need it, I absolutely NEED it! (and I now have 85Nm available). :)
I rode over what turned out to be an Apple phone in a leather wallet. I rang "wife" and got a right bollocking on the lines of "what time do you call this, I suppose you're with her......." Which was a bit of a surprise. When I managed to get a word in, I told her that her man had lost his phone...
A mate of mine once struggled in vain to get a 26" tyre onto a 27.5" rim, but you should be able to get a 27.5" tube onto a 29" rim. Are you sure the tube is the correct size?
Any leak should be a really small gap and therefore the sealant will take care of it.
By the way, if you are using a latex sealant with bits in it, then make sure you shake the bottle very vigorously before adding to the tyre. It's the bits that plug the hole reducing sealant flow to the point...
@Rod B. I recognise that photo in post #2 (of the two gears, one worn, one new). I took it on 5th Jan'14. Maybe I should have copyrighted it! Who knows I could have been a millionaire by now! :ROFLMAO:
Feel free to use it as many times as you like.
Do you have this one? It was taken later but...
