I guess the feeling of easier pedalling gives the feeling of going faster. But surely you must agree that the cut off slows you down whereas derestricting gives the ability to go faster? I mean could you get the same speed on a restricted ebike as you could on a derestricted ebike, and reach...
I was actually referring to an electric bike used to commute, as that is basically what my hardtail is used at the moment. Maybe it's not a speed thing on an emtb but on tarmac it sure as hell helps. And yeah, turbo means more power to go quicker, right?
First and foremost people derestrict their bikes to go faster and to get rid of the crap cut out that slows you down. All that other stuff about setting the bike to suit the riding is secondary.
A poll would be interesting but then how many are gonna be honest about derestricting their bikes? I think many have at least derestricted just out of curiosity to see how much faster they could go and to get rid of the stupid cut off at 15mph.
I reckon the majority who use electric bikes to commute derestrict and a fair few of the etmb community also derestrict. It's likely ebike sales will be hit hard with such draconian measures. May as well just buy a cheaper analogue bike
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm 5ft 7 so would prefer a more nimble small size. I have a medium cube hardtail with 29ers and feel it's a bit too big for me.
The reason I'm favouring the Canyon over the Vitus as I think the Canyon is more suited for my needs, but like Polaris, I still haven't ruled out the Vitus because the price is so good. TBH I probably would have shelled out for the Canyon already but they don't have any size small in stock.
Yeah if the e-sommet had 150mm travel I would definitely buy it. As much as I love the look of the bike and quality components for the price I'm beginning to think it's too much bike for my style of trail riding. Like Gary says the Vitus is more of a super endurance bike whereas I'm more of a...
