Oh man that eBike racing you guys have going looks so fun and a good group of fellas..... reminds me of the first days of mtn bike racing on some trails you are laying down in a field and making it work. Tough grassy areas look perfect for E.
I keep thinking/hoping eMTB racing will take off but...
Or just go right to the best, the full carbon LaMere eSummit built any way you like. In our humble opinion any eBike that is not full suspension is a huge bummer. Also any eBike without a speed motor that limits you to just 18mph is also a huge bummer.
The LaMere eSummit has removable battery in 630Wh or 504Wh but its a Shimano motor. We love the Shimano motor as its super reliable, easy to customize, and we can offer the speed version for your commutes. Check it out here:

Hi Sam, so what you say is not exactly right. In the USA Class 1 bikes are governed down to 19mph and that's what most mtn bike trails want you to be on. Class 3 bikes are allowed to go up to 28mph and these are the new versions of commuter and road eBikes. Class 2 are the Sur Rons and other...
My only advice is that any bike shop eMTB is going to be governed down to 19mph, which will drive you insane..... make sure to get an eMTB with the new speed motor from Shimano or Bosch. Hard to find speed motor bikes, but we make them here at LaMere Cycles in Minnesota LMK if you want one.
For LaMere Cycles the answer is Option E with a caveat being that the bike should be Class 3 meaning pedal assist, no throttle, and limited to 28mph. Shimano just released the new EP801 speed motor that we as an OEM manufacturer can set up to 28mph, so we are one of the few providers in the USA...
We have a some nice Small and Med demo eMTB LaMere bikes you can see them at link below and can even take more off the price depending on where we would be shipping to:

Of couse I'm biased as my last name is LaMere, but here in Minnesota, USA we at LaMere Cycles build the world's best electric fat bike, full suspension, full carbon, speed-tuned Shimano motor, hand built up any way you like with either internal or external battery.
These are all nice bikes, but none have the new EP801 Shimano speed motor, so you will be limited to 19mph which, after you get used to riding an eMTB, will drive you nuts. Buy a full carbon hand-built LaMere from us built up just the way you like with carbon hoops and instant engagement Onyx hubs!
Here at LaMere Cycles we are known for our Class 3 eMTB bikes, check them out at this link, we'd love to build one for you this week any way you like!

Here's my completely biased advice as owner of LaMere Cycles:
1- Definitely get an eMTB, your volume of exercise will go way up as the eBike is so much more fun to ride, and more fun with bigger suspension and bigger tires, etc...
2- Make sure to get a speed tuned bike with the new Shimano...
For Shimano certified OEMs like us here at LaMere Cycles, where we build high end carbon eMTB bikes, we can set the EP801 motors to any speed limit up to 28mph. We ship bikes all over the world and there are different regulations in every country, and different regulations all around the USA...

So the EP801 is the latest greatest Shimano motor that has lot of small improvements and such over the EP800 but the big thing is the EP801 has a speed option so for Shimano OEMs and builders like us here at LaMere Cycles we can build our bikes with the EP801 motor and set the speed limit all...
