Best brakes for vertical bike storage

Bleed the Shimano brakes with Red Line LikeWater to fixing the wandering bite point.

    Shortening your cranks

I rode the 155mm cranks for the first time this weekend. While I need to fiddle with my seat height a bit now, it was AMAZING not having any peddle strikes!

    Shortening your cranks

I'm pretty sure the spindle is permanently attached to the left crankarm, and from looking at the picture I can tell it's too short. You need the ~150mm long spindle, which are only available for the Atlas and Turbine cranksets.

    Shortening your cranks

Finished machining the 175mm Atlas cranks to 155mm and installed them on my bike this evening. Hopefully I can get out for a ride this weekend and put them through their paces.

    Shortening your cranks

I converted to 165mm Atlas cranks and it's been better, but even is the default Ride4 position I'm still getting pedal strikes too often. So I've picked up a set of 175mm Atlas cranks and will shorten them to 155mm and give that a try. It'll be my first time shortening cranks, but it shouldn't...

    Shortening your cranks

FYI, this thread is for Rocky Mountain bikes, which us the Dyname motor, and not a Shimano motor. The cranks are not interchangable.

    Shortening your cranks

I don't think your bike shop realizes there's a one way bearing in the crank spider.

Would ep801 put you off buying a bike ?

I owned one and chose to sell it before the motor had issues. With the bottom bracket integrated into the motor, it's not a question of if but when there will be issues, and I can't have a $1,500 sword hanging over my head if the motor dies. Not having serviceable components if acceptable if...

Would ep801 put you off buying a bike ?

I absolutely wouldn't buy a Shimano powered ebike. They have a no repair policy, so if anything happens outside of warranty you're buying a new one. At least Bosch and Yamaha can be serviced by third parties to an extent.

    Removing chain retention roller

Would you be willing to send me the STL or IGES file for that? It would save me time modeling it myself.

    Removing chain retention roller

That makes a lot of sense.

    Removing chain retention roller

How did you make that? I would have guessed you 3D printed something, but that doesn't look printed.

    Removing chain retention roller

Thanks! It's on my list of stuff to do. I suspect they did it to slow down wear on the chainring, but I'd rather just replace my chainring more often.

    Shortening your cranks

    Correct.

    Shortening your cranks

The chainring is located against the bottom bracket by the chainring lock ring, so the extra couple millimeters of crank axle end up on the non-drive side where the adjustment collar has plenty of travel to take up the extra length. In theory the left crank arm is spaced further out by a couple...

Same, or at least a 160. Hopefully the new cranks from NSB prove to be compatible.

Need help deciding on a reliable motor.

Your diagram looks like the Dyname 3.0. On the Dyname 4.0 I don't see an exposed motor bearing. Or are you saying the drive chain cover itself doesn't seal against the motor casing?

    Removing chain retention roller

    Not by all that much.

    New bike advice

Stay away from Shimano motors. They are not serviceable, and if the motor fails you're buying a new one.
