Not felt the need on my SL can happily pedal above the limit all day, however I would ask How Bloody Big are your front chainrings Cos I'm spinning out at 20mph!!!
Coil has always been better performance than air (provided your kinematics are designed for it) but no-one wanted the extra weight on analogue bikes. Now we are blatting around on 50kg bikes with hardly any effort the weight just isn't a factor anymore!!
Jeeeze, whatever happened to riding bikes n havin fun!!!! My lungs and legs tell me if I'm putting in enough effort, the smile tells me how much fun I've had and the servicing gets done when things start to feel wrong!!!
It'll be in your handbook page 12 but it'll just tell you to do a reboot! Or take into dealer. From what I've seen with the SL's I know of including mine it'll be a problem with the wiring harness but you may be lucky if you dry out all the connectors with some compressed air. Good luck.

Fox 36 with Vorsprung coil conversion here, being a Biffer I found to get the correct sag the air pressure is so high that small bump sensitivity was crap and I was right out on the limits of the damper. Now its bloody ace!!

My apologies misread your post. Cant help as I have always used cheap Sram chains and binned them at about 0.5 wear and have never suffered chain suck in even the worst muddy conditions, unless I have run the drivetrain on for a total replacement.
Nothing wrong with it apart from, 'rough grippy finish to it'. You want a smooth finish to release the chain and not pick it up. Also it should be free of any lube as much as possible, an oily chainring will pick up dirt and cause chain suck. Your Hope chainring may well have been worn and you...
As I said its a lube, no need to remove it'll wear off on the first ride then just rinse wipe and re oil each ride. After looking up Bucklos on Ebay I'd try buying a quality chainring first, I think the clue may be in the name!
I think everyone is missing the point here, the bike shop didn't say the gears aren't shifting they said the chain was slipping on some cogs which points to chain wear! Or could even be freehub if its only when under real pressure!
The 'sticky' stuff on the chain is in fact lube its the same that's inside the rollers, its sticky so as to stay inside the rollers, but then people wash it out with degreaser and chain cleaners then wonder why their chains don't last!
