What you tried, it really does depend on the shape of your head - best thing to do is go try them on if you can. I have issues getting helmets to fit have anarrow head as well - I found the POC Tectal fits me well but not cheap!

From my post, the HT AE03 and One Up Components looked the best for my needs. They are very thin which should help with pedal strikes. I Bought the HT AE03 by the way.
