Yes, the external charge port. Once I worked out the issue cleaning was really easy and is now part of regular maintenance.
I run the chip in high because I now have a 2.6 rear tyre. I have no problem with strikes now , I just learned how to ride it :-)
I have had 2 faults.
1. System errors and startup issues. This went back to YT but turned out to be dirt in the charge port/plug. I only found this after it came back with "no fault found" from YT.
2. E8000 bearing play. Local Shimano agent replaced motor under warranty. I think this was...
A couple of our Scottish Enduros have a class for EBikes. You just race everything as normal. This then means "cheating" makes no difference unless a stage has a long sprint in it, which is they do not in the races concerned. The Ebike class just finishes quicker.
Yes you can. The warranty is handled by Madison. You may have to pay another LBS for the labour to swap the motor however. Evans should do it for free.
My wife has a Canyon with E8000 and the cover does not do any different job to my Decoy frame. I in fact today took off the cover to clean the dirt from behind it.
We live in Scotland and have ridden nearly every day all winter so water is not an issue, at least for us.
1. Not starting is usually dirt in the battery connector or charging port. I have had this 2 or 3 times and a quick clean sorts it. YT do not seem to know this .
2. I got my motor swapped (faulty bearings) by the LBS Shimano agent without problem.
That is total boll"£$s . All it means is that your assist speed will drop by a very small amount. Manufactures cannot dictate which tyres you use and not all 2.8 tyres have the same rolling radius.
If you are worried about the warranty just put the 2.8 back on if you have to send it back. I...
Clean and lube the tiny little spring loaded balls in the battery connector. I think if they get a bit of muck on them they stick and don't put enough pressure on the other side of the connecter to keep a good contact.
I would think making the rear 178 travel will screw the geometry up a bit. Rear progression curve is going to get screwed and the BB height change will make it handle worse.
You do not need to seal the whole perimeter of the battery only the top edge area. This will prevent crap getting on the terminals but allow a bit of air around it for cooling. The main things in a wet Scotland (I live in Innerleithen) is to :-
1. Always make sure the charging port cover is in...
I replaced my 2.8 with a 2.6 Michelin. Switched the flip chip to high and get the same geometry as the 2.8 on low setting. Bike turns much better with the 2.6. Diameter of Tyre on rim is 700mm.
This is a very odd story. My Shimano motor had bearing failure and was replaced by LBS (Edinburgh Bike Coop) no problem. they did not need to talk to YT at all.
The replacement was covered by the warranty from shimano
I have had 3 E8000 motors now (counting my wifes) and will say that after a couple of hundred K's they get quieter. This would be expected as the gears run in and smooth off. After 1000k my current E8000 is as quiet if not quieter than the Brose motor I tested in a Kenevo.
When you see this problem do not forget to flush out the charging port with WD40 and blow clean. This fixes it for me and I now do it every week as a precaution.
I don't think static standover is very relevant on a modern MTB. The main thing is to have a short enough seat tube to allow the saddle to drop. I never get on or off over the top tube and when riding never get anywhere near it. It seems like having the same problem as having the saddle low...
