I've found that if you shift into your smallest cog, the walk assist speed is 3mph. According to Google the average walking speed is 3.1mph.
When shifted into the largest cog, it's 1.5mph.
It would be nice if Shimano allowed the user to adjust the walk mode up to 4 or 5 mph in the smallest cog
If you want to do it cheap, just buy an MX back protector plate, cut it to size, then throw it in your bag behind your water bladder.
You could buy some soft foam to throw in around the battery to keep it from shifting and moving in the bag while you ride
When i was racing a lot, i was struggling to squeeze the last drops out of the orange (needed to drop like 15lbs)
The way I did it was i cut out every calorie drink and just drank water. It took around 3 months but i lost the 15lbs and kept it off. Anyways good luck!
Kind of disappointed the article didn't touch on the difficulty to bring Solid State batteries to the market, to something that is manufacturable at scale
Currently better batteries exist in labs, but they no one has found a way to mass manufacture them at a reasonable cost
I find myself riding off the beaten path. To places that would have been too difficult or slow on a non-ebike. It's definitely opened a whole new area of riding for me. I thought my fat bike was an "adventure bike" but it turns out this ebike is way more worthy of adventure riding
I remember I once showed up to a mountain bike race with a 15 year old bike with only a front brake and a 640mm handlebar. I was actually hoping someone would comment on my bike but no one seemed to care. Lol. Anyways I finish middle of the pack in the advanced field so not really good or bad...
You could also try calling around to the local bike shops and see if you can demo a bike on a group ride, or ask if they're having any ebike demo's coming up at trail centers. That way you can just show up and ride without putting any money into the sport other than buying a helmet.
If you...
Have you been out trail riding? Just curious.. i've taken a number of people out to try riding and just about all of them never ended up getting into mountain biking. But that's mostly on regular mountain bikes so the fitness required might have something to do with that. Even the few people...
Something with a 750wh battery like the new Specialized Levo comes to mind.
Or the Haibike Flyon with a 630wh battery and 120nm of torque. And if you wait long enough they'll have the new TQ motor out which should be very powerful
Commencal has Canada direct store too. Might want to take a look at their website. They have a few hardtail models.
If you have questions give them a call or email. I've only delt with USA and Europe but found both to have excellent customer service and wouldn't expect anything different from...
I agree with all the above. There is a good margin of safety built into these bikes. Manufacturers understand that people will be taking them off jumps and drops, and if you don't plan on doing that then you're totally fine. As others have said the rear shock you want to make sure will support...
Are Levo's still on back order? That might make your decision easier if you *need* an ebike soon. Also the hype over the YT... that bike might sell out quick too
Good choice on ordering one with a coil shock! The spec's on that bike are perrrrfect...That's a highend bike that wont need any upgrading.
Can't say i'd change much on the Commencal. If this is your first proper MTB, you're in for a riot of a time! FYI - being new to the sport you wont know...
Thanks for the thorough review. As a Shimano fanboy, it's nice to know there are other options out there. I use to rock Hayes Mags way back in the day and it's nice to know Hayes is still developing new brakes, hopefully they can get there QC together and improve things
Generally speaking, that can be said for the Endless Sphere forum. So many people on there put high horsepower motors on department store bikes.... I've never seen so many snappend fork stanchions. So many bad ideas on there...
