I have an update here on the LSS. It looks like for the 2020 model year, Specialized changes the axle profile of the rear hub for the Levo base and comp models. This didn't leave enough room for the cover to hold on to the axle. I worked with @besty007 and came up with a new design that combines...
Hi @Quiui, for the LSS to work properly the center gear (sun gear) needs to stay stationary relative to the wheel that rotates. So it sounds like in your setup the sun gear may be loose, which is allowing it to spin. In this situation there would be no speed increase. So, check to make sure the...
Hi @Justride, thanks for the pictures. That magnet looks like it might be significantly weaker than a solid neodymium magnet. It's important to get a good quality magnet with high magnetic strength. Neodymium magnets range from a strength of N35 to N52. Normal 'fridge' magnets only have a...
Thanks @JAMh for the additional info. What I find strange is there are over 50 people with the LSS and we've been using it for 10 months and no one has had this issue (at least that I'm aware of), but suddenly 2 people have the exact same issue, so I'm wondering if Specialized changed something...
Thanks @Justride for the info. I actually tried to duplicate this phenomenon by riding slowly in the lowest gear but was unable to. Maybe I need to find a steeper hill and try again, but I'm wondering if Specialized has perhaps updated their firmware and added additional checks? Like maybe they...
Hi Tom,
Congrats on getting your new Levo! Regarding the LSS vs LSS 2.0, first I want to assure you there's nothing wrong with the original LSS, it will perform just as good as the 2.0. I made the 2.0 version mainly for better clearance for people running aftermarket rotors or people with the...
Yeah, that product copied my idea (but changed their design in a few ways). I guess it was bound to happen as I was very open about documenting the design and prototyping of it here on this forum. I try to be very helpful in answering people's questions on the LSS and in return people on here...
Thank you @Ginge for the kind words. I'm impressed you read all 22 pages of this thread :)
Looking at your pics, it looks like your Levo HT still uses the old magnet placement which is a little more outboard like in the 2018 Levos. Your axle also looks very similar to the regular Levos so I'm...
Hi @JAMh. I've never come across this issue nor heard anyone having this problem. However, I rarely ride that slow on the hills in my area. Have you tried taking off the LSS for a few weeks to see if the problem persists? If it was the Levo thinking the bike had 'stopped' I would think using a...
Yep, as @SmackIt said, these are 3d printed on-demand by Shapeways and sent directly by them to the customer. So no way to include / install a magnet. A lot of customers are in Europe and Shapeways has a headquarters there (as well as the USA) which makes shipping easier.
Hi @Mina08, your brake rotor looks different than the stock one. Can you clarify if that is the rotor that came on your 2018, or did you change the rotor? Do you know what is preventing the cover from sitting flush on the LSS?
Hi @MJ_Levo. You can get the beta Aluminum version of the planet gear here:
LSS Planetary Gear v2 by JD_3D on Shapeways
However, I got one recently and found for the magnet I was using the fit was too tight, so I had to sand the inside hole with some rolled up sandpaper for ~5 minutes before...
Hi @Mina08. I've been running mine dry since I first designed it and haven't had any issues. However, we have a few people on here that have had success with a dry graphite lubricant. As for a teflon based lube, that could possibly work, you'd just need to make sure it is compatible with plastic...
Hi @AgileMike, you might be the first to try on the 2020. I've heard they are very similar to the 2019s, correct? As long as the brake rotor and rear hub are the same as the 2019s I think it should fit fine.
It's hard to say, I've heard of problems like that just due to electrical issues, etc, but it could be the LSS. If it keeps happening you could take off the LSS (or simply remove the planet gear but leave the rest on, and then put a magnet directly on the rotor). See if the problem goes away...
Hi @desousab, I don't make one specifically for the Hard Tail versions of the Levo. Do you know what rear hub and brake rotor you have? If its running the same hubs and rotors it may fit.
I guess we'll see as I've been running it for around a week so far. If you are happy with the original clip ring then stick with that. The forces on the LSS are really small so the clips don't need to be that strong. I made them thin for flexibility, but once all 12 are engaged it holds on tight.
