So... There's a chance I might know what the issue was...
It looks as though I might have mixed the end caps up on the wheels. The Hunt Trail wide use a microspline specific pair of end caps. I think I had the wrong cap on the non drive side.
Both the 29 and 27.5 wheels are Trail wide V2...
It's no so much the geo changes that I'm bothered about. I was expecting all of those.
It's the pedalling thing that I'm not sure about. It's not just the feeling of being less efficient that you'd maybe associate with slacker angles, it literally feels like the motor isn't assisting as much...
So... I decided to try a 27.5 rear wheel.
It was a fairly cheap experiment, I already had the wheel on my HT so the only outlay was a Bosch magnet for the disc.
Observations
-possibly slightly better on steep, loose stuff in the woods.
-possibly worse everywhere else.
The front was...
TLD Resist.
They feel a bit rubbery when you touch them but they feel fine when you're riding.
They do let water in eventually. I think last time I wore them was in the Peak District and it rained for 7 hotlrs solid. They kept me dry for a surprisingly long time though.
There's 2 different...
Is anyone actually having any problems with the replacement e thirteen e spec chainring for their Rise?
I found this thread and then checked my '22 H30 and found there are no recesses machined into the original ring and plenty of clearance between the ring and chain guide mounts.
Is this...
Moi?
I removed and cleaned the bolts which had loosened and put some blue Loctite on them.
I'll check the rest again before I ride it next. If they haven't moved, I'll leave them. If they've loosened them I'll treat them to some new Loctite and check them again after a ride or 2.
Maybe onto something with the factory loctite? I fitted a new linkage recently. Most of the bolts came with thread lock applied. After a couple of rides I went back over everything with a torque wrench and they're were a couple of bolts that had loosened off.
I know it's a lightweight bike but...
Yeah, that really annoyed me when I found out.
Bike is 2 years old and they've made the linkage obsolete.
I had a creaky linkage with and a bit of play (again) and wanted to buy a new axle (again). Bought one about a year ago at £45, this time around it would have been £350 for a complete...
I'm waiting for this to happen to me. My daughter seems to enjoy 'fixing' my bike with me whenever I'm out in the garage. She's figured out where the allen keys fit and it's only a matter of time before she's strong enough to undo something important 😂.
Those bolts, well actually all of the...
I've lodged a couple of warranty claims through the shop that I bought my Rise. Not for the battery, motor and linkage but anyway...
The owner of the shop on both occasions has said that Orbea aren't the most efficient at communicating. They get there in the end but never seem to rush. I know...
Definitely give the Loctite a go. I couldn't get 638 delivered in time for a weekend so bought some Graingers(?) retaining compound from Halfords and it sorted it.
By that point, I'd already replaced the splined axle once due to it developing play mid ride and there was clearly some fretting...
A pair of hunt trail wide wheels will be ~1900g for £359 new. The XC wide is claimed to be 1700g for the same money.
Some Bontrager XR4s will be sub 800g each for the 2.4s. Light, cheap and fast for not much money (relatively speaking)
More nimble around corners could be as simple as narrower bars. My Rise was a bit sluggish with 800mm bars and a 45mm stem.
50mm stem 790 bars made it steer slightly faster (*I actually went from 45mm to 50 on the stem, got it the wrong way around) and I've just this afternoon chopped another...
When you say 'more agile' what exactly do you mean? Quicker up hills? Sharper steering? Faster on flat singletrack? Easier to get airborne?
Pretty much any of those things would be down to component choice or setup. You've already got one of the lighter bikes out there. It sounds like you want...
