Fuel EXe TREK's new lightweight trail ebike

I'm pretty much the same as you. The trek looks good, but I always look for an alloy frame. I'll hang on to my money :)

getting started on a steep incline

I'm with some of the above re drop seat and low gear. I'd also add put your foot and pedal at the top of the power stroke. If you can, having a meter or two of reasonable ground in front is good too; it doesn't take much of a rock to stop you or help you lose traction when you're starting. One...

    Answered Sun Glasses Advice Please

I use safety glasses. Incredibly light weight, great visibility, UV protection, and cheap. I've left a few trackside, so no great loss (someone will have found them). I mostly use clear because of the shadow and light. If it is a really glarey day I wear yellow tint - it cuts out some available...

Thanks for the feedback. The review looked pretty good. How do you find them on the bike?

    Derailleurs and chains

That is so bizarre! I used to have this happen with a trials bike that I was playing around with, but nothing else. The little pebbles (around 5-8mm) would drop off the tyre onto the chain. The tyre was a tight fit, not aggressive and not soft compound - a holy roller 24"; kind of aimed at bmx...

    Derailleurs and chains

Have you considered why, or how, you are breaking them? It isn't a common problem. Shimano has an emtb specific drivetrain but it is still early days, so it isn't known if it is better / stronger.

I have the same stand - lots of different brands, but I think they're all the same.

    Trance X E + 1 flip chip. Nightmare.

if you're interested, and if they're available and not too expensive, one of these might be good too: I shopped around and found one for Au $70. They're good for 50lbs (22.7kgs). I remove the battery. Most others are around 35lbs or less (16kg).

    Replace cage bearings with cartridge?

It probably isn't your lack of skill. I know with bottom brackets on analogue bikes that many of them simply are out of alignment - they were manufactured that way. The only potential issue I can see with a cartridge is that it will have smaller balls, but should over ride the alignment issue.

    Are carbon frames strong enough?

that's the thing really - despite all the figures, alloy is just more robust and tolerant to some damage. Damage to a carbon frame is much more of a weakness - it's like opening the flood gates. I know of folk who have tried to get minor damage to their cf frames fixed. I say minor but it's...

    2 pot R 4 pot F

I can't answer your question directly. I have 4 pot front and rear, same size and model rotors front and rear. The only difference is pads - metal on the rear, resin on the front. I think this is a great combo - aggressive on the rear, controllable on the front. With that in mind if it was my...

    Are carbon frames strong enough?

Alloy is just easier. CF frame quality is largely dependent on the person who laid the frame. CF needs alloy inserts for threads etc. which creates more areas of potential failure. Quality isn't necessarily improving; it seems the opposite since covid and supply train issues. I'd avoid any alloy...

What tyres? The Ultimate Tyre Thread

super glue would never work - it dries hard. If you have a tear like that I don't know what would work. The tears in mine did not have to be airtight - they also had the tannus liner pressed against the patch under pressure. You might have to buy a patch that is made for repairing tires (not...

    All the gear, no idea!

there's one part of your problem I think. With the guide fitted correctly it's hard to see how the chain could come off. Consider; the chain came off because the chain guide was loose. Now the guide isn't there, the problem continues. Still there is more at play here - the chain guide shouldn't...

    All the gear, no idea!

It would be good if you could answer Streddaz other question. I haven't known a chain to come off the chain ring with thick / thin teeth and a chain guide fitted. So long as the chain is under tension, that part should be right. Did you have the chain guide fitted and was it fitted correctly? It...

What tyres? The Ultimate Tyre Thread

not doubting any of this; both tires I have had cuts in are in the tread, not the sidewalls. I've never had a sidewall fail for any tire. I do believe that lighter sidewalls, without any inserts, do need more pressure than those tires with heavier sidewalls. If I didn't use a tannus I'd...

Fuel EXe TREK's new lightweight trail ebike

hopefully that will change soon. Slomo was anti anything good. The pity is that anything implemented now will take a year or two to kick in. I'd love to see the range of cheaper and smaller options that seem to be all over UK and Europe, India etc. We're way behind though; one problem is that...
