    Motor reliabilty

Hello Ebike repairs,Is the issue with the shimano motors ,specifically the ep8,a software issue,am I correct in assuming that the ep8 would be a straightforward motor to service if it wasn’t for the software crashing on disassembly.

Article Is the Shimano EP8 a bad motor?

Can’t tell you how it’ll be doing in 3 years but I can tell you that 2700 miles ( 200 in the last month) 2 and a half years with my ep8 and 630 battery and after setting up the app on day one haven’t touched it since. The bike has been dragged through it’s 3rd winter, mud, torrential rain ,river...

    Motor reliabilty

Sorry to hear that DMO,Unlucky 4 times does seem unlikely ,on the other hand I have a two and a half year old ep8 with nearly 3000 miles on it and has been ridden through the most appalling conditions.Rivers, fords ,winter mud and torrential rain and has been perfect from the first turn of the...

    Most reliable EMTB's?

Sorry, but it is absolutely true.If you think capitalism is so evil go live in china.I would respectfully suggest that if you came here to talk about bikes don’t make political statements regarding capitalism

    WARNING Belt Drive on EMTBs

That may be true in some cases Sander,I’m more inclined to believe it’s down to the way some folks set up and use/abuse their transmissions ,I’ve seen some appalling shifting over the years, shifting under load, crashing through multiple changes .I’m not suggesting you do that, but I am amazed at...

    WARNING Belt Drive on EMTBs

sander ,that’s nonsense,I have been mixing and matching transmissions since the late 80s,(yes I am that old 🤣)As long as the shimano and sram are the same speed transmissions I have never ever had a problem,Aftermarket chainrings ,sram chains (by far better than shimano) and shimano /sram...

    WARNING Belt Drive on EMTBs

I have an slx 12 speed cassette and XO1 chain ,I never change the chains, just run the whole transmission until it jumps. current transmission is at 2700 miles and not at 0.5 yet,I have a chain guage but to be honest hardly ever use it.Just measured it out of curiosity.

    eMTB for my child

Have to ask why a kid needs an ebike, like Rich said, get him a normal bike and let him build up to e bikes. If he can’t keep up,you’re going too fast.

    Rotor size/lever leverage/stopping distance discussion

So,let me throw a spanner here.My bike runs 200mm rotors with xt twin piston calipers. My other bike (lighter) runs Hope X2 calipers (single piston) on 185 rotors.I love the feel of the X2s compared to the shimanos. So what would happen if I put the X2 calipers on the bike running 200mm rotors.I...

    New Hope Tech 4 V4

Hi,I fitted a set of the Hopes to my wifes Levo sl and compared to my XTs they are every bit as good. They have more modulation and are far more suited to smaller hands ,a reason why I always change my wifes brakes to Hopes. She can brake as hard with a two finger grip as she could before with 3...

    Noisy EP8

Steve Mine started with the infamous rattle but with 1340 miles under the wheels it is significantly quieter,

Anyone else’s shimano EP8 motor clunk when cranks are moved?

Been running my TK01-rr with ep8 for 1340 miles and interestingly the rattle is getting quieter. No idea why, initially I thought I was just getting used to it,filtering out the noise but it’s not that,it is significantly quieter than when it was new.I would love to know why.
