I had also MRP Ribbon Coil, but never tried it on my Rail. Simply was never happy with the Ribbon damper on ealier bikes and ended up to sell it. On my Rail I have changed the stock Yari damper to Charger 2.1 RC2 damper and also upgraded to SKF seals. Now it's basically Lyrik Ultimate with EMTB...
I have normal Lyrik on my Nomad and compared to that Rail's Yari chassis also has different lower legs. Biggest difference is length so changing fork to standard you will alter the geo of the bike.
I have Fox DHX2 fitted on Rail 7. See: Trek Rail with Fox DHX2 coil - EMTB Forums
Fits if your frame is Large or bigger. I had stock bike loaner during my battery drop warranty repair and rode it 4-5 times. I had forgotten how much stock shock sucks.
My bike did exactly the same and is now on dealer for warranty repair. They replace the battery lock and few other parts + battery cover. Luckily battery survived.
I’ve never had creaks coming from headset bearings before. Based on my experience it’s very difficult to locate the origin of creak on aluminium frames. Sound typically resonates on frame and can come from anywhere on main triangle. I just proceeded by going through the usual places.
My Rail 7 started creaking. Sound comes somewhere around headtube, I have already greased all usual suspects like pedals, linkage, spring and dropper/seat tube junction. Same with the battery, all contact points are greased. I suspect Lyrik or something inside the frame close to headtube. Anyone...
I did not measure this, but enough. Mine is Large frame, smaller frames might not have enough space for DHX2. Lower spring seat hitting the downtube is the most problematic measure. In smaller frames that is the area where it might get too tight.
I don’t think there are different DHX2 tunes if you just buy a shock. Same year models will come with the same tune and you just fine tune it with clickers. If it is taken from a bike some manufacturers get special tunes from Fox. Mine is off the shelf 2018 DHX2 from Tftuned.
I’m 80kg’s and run...
