I recently got the Jam2 SL, and all I can say is that I'm more than happy.
For quite a long time I have looked for a new SL to replace my first gen Levo Sl. I was looking for a light MTB with more power. I had different motor systems to choose from: TQ 50, Specialized SL1.2, Fazua 60, Bosch SX...
Yes, but no … ;)
In the German lab test peak power has been measured over different cadences and they did pick up the highest power output which is 278 watts and not 320.
Even though this is one of the most controlled test environment we have so far to asses real SL1.2 power output, it doesn’t...
I have investigated what could be the real (peak) power output (watts) of the new SL1.2.
Aside your personal analysis, it is difficult to find some good evaluations (with scientifically measured data).
There is well @EMTBReview channel on YouTube who's trying to bring some more tangible...
Currently hesitating between Levo SL and Heckler SL. I would go for the heckler for sure if it hasn’t that Fazua motor. I’ve read through a lot of bad stories about that motor reliability (mainly on shuttle SL and Relay).
I know it is still early to debrief on Heckler SL as it just hit the...
Like it or not but Ride60 motor was (when released) an unfished or at least unrefined system. The remote was not functioning properly, the 5 diods indicator is basic and the motor faced quite some technical bugs (hardware and software). Hopefully the latest firmware updates are addressing...
SL2 is def more all mountain than trail, did you try it?
But yes heckler SL leans a bit more toward enduro territory because of VPP, longer chainstay and being 1.4kg heavier (comp vs R models).
What about the elephant in the room: F60 reliability issues. This is a young, less mature system so it is more subjected to engineering issues, but I have heard sooo many stories about motor bugs, this is alarming. Some of my Santa dealers simply refused to order the heckler SL because of that...
While the former gen SL got dislike because of weak power (by some), I start to feel this new gen will be because of weak range. This is sad cause aside from unchanged small battery this bike is very appealing! A 400wh battery would have hit the sweet spot!
On paper this motor is promising, though not as discrete as TQ, Fazua and SL.
The extender though... Too bulky, overall shape is poorly designed. Integration was not a priority it seems.
Sorry mate but both Trek's TQ and Fazua Ride 60 are way too fresh to determine how superior they are to SL1.1 motor. They have some advantages for sure on paper at least. But it is still too early to discard the Spe/Mahle motor especially if you did not ride them 3 extensively...
For the rest...

Shit, I really hoped Ibis first ebike would be a lightweight trail bike same as pivot SL in a eRipley flavour.
But it’s rather beefy enduro, heavy motor and questionable design… Not for me.
Same experience for me, my FF had multiple motor issues, while my SL had not any so far.
Also when you look at forums motor failure topics seem more frequent on FF threads than SL ones (proportionally speaking of course).
Let's not forget SL is a more recent motor than the Brose one even...
Maybe not in noise department, however the new DCU display is already matching what trek offers, and 240 to 300 watts is not a huge gap to fill, I would not get your hope that low so quickly. To me the new fazua system is more appealing (on paper) than what trek proposes. Let’s wait and see. But...
Comparing stock availability of a freshly introduced bike (gen 3 levo), marketed in the middle of a pandemic and worldwide supply chain disruption with a bike on the market for 2 years (SL), is a bit unfair.
I don't think you need omniscience ;) to get that a fresh model generates more demand...
