Looks like I'll be going with the meta power 29. Now the question is Race vs Signature. Price not a deciding factor (Signature +$700)
Race: lyrik RC2, RockShox super deluxe RCT coil, Code R brakes, wheelset DT swiss
Signature: Fox 36 Factory fit 4, fox float X2 factory, shimano XT brakes...
I'm about to buy a commercial meta power 29 and can buy the race version with rockshox lyric fork and RCT coil, or spend a few more dollars ($500) and get the Fox factory 36 and and float X2 factory air. Any comments on coil vs air? Fox version also has shimano XT brakes vs SRAM code R.
Merida is not sold in the US (competition with specialized, same owner from what I understand)
I can get a Merida from Germany for $6600 US without the battery. Add another $600 or so for the battery. Meta Power 29 race $5300, signature with full Fox setup is $5999.
2018 meta race 650 with...
I rode the 2018 Levo and would never buy that model. Not nearly enough "mountain bike" like for me, especially on the downs. Felt big and clunky. That said it was not the top component model. The 2019 looks like a totally different animal though.
Thanks very helpful. I'm in the US and Merida are not even sold here, but can get one via germany. I'd have to buy the battery separately here as they cannot ship batteries to the US. More hassle than its worth if bikes are are similar.
I've narrowed my focus down to these two. The Commencal would be cheaper by $1k and easier to get (I'm in the US) but have been reading great things about the Merida. The new turbo levo is in the running but equally equipped is over $8k. Still doable.
