Cracks run perpendicular to the stress. The stress in this case was pulling the centre of the tube apart. This was most likely residual stress from welding.
Head on impact would not cause cracks close to the neutral axis of the tube and along the length of the tube, it would most likely cause rippling under the DT and/or cracking of the top of the top tube in the HAZ of the weld or the weld itself.
A hard landing would cause the opposite of this...

I bought a cable with the green connector on it from Amazon for £7 and soldered it into the wiring loom as close to the bottom as possible. Everything now works and has done for a couple of weeks.
That's a very strange place for a crack. Looks like it is along a ridge in the hydroformed tube. Makes me think it is almost certainly down to a manufacturing flaw.
For me, compactness really isn't super important, yet this seems to be their top priority. Unfortunately harmonic drives etc like this (and the TQ) are not super efficient, hence all the talk about heat dissipation.

Tried very gentle hair drying on the cable ends and TCU, no noticeable change. However today the TCU seems to have properly packed-up. Turns itself off after about 30 seconds. Doesn't matter what I do. Tried connecting charger and it went to red, then the TCU shut down and it went to flashing...
Just switch your presta cores for Schwalbe Click Valve cores. I've been amazed how quick and easy these are.
Just pull the cap off and press on the gauge or pump. Instant secure connection. When you are done just pull off the pump and pop the cap back on. Done.

I'm pretty sure that I would forget to close the ball valve fairly regularly with those and end up blowing all the air and a bunch of sealant out onto the hub etc.
I've been running the Schwalbe Click Valve for a few weeks and really like it. Super quick and easy to check...
Useful info on the cable. I think it may well be the green female connector at fault. I cleaned mine and it was good for 24 hours then played up again. Cleaned again and put some special conductive grease on, thinking that a poor contact here might be the culprit but it is still bad.
