When our bikes go out of guarantee, over the next couple of months, I'm going to open up my old battery and get the cells tested to see if I can work out why my range, on flat country lanes and easy trails, has dropped from 60 miles per charge, down to 38. I'm keen to see what you think of the new battery and what range you get. Do you mind sharing how much you paid for it please?

That looks really good and fits the bike well. Thanks for the price details, hope that it works as well as we all expect.

Results from first ride - basically an XC route linking together some local trails - First nice day of the year luckily, sunny day, about 10 degrees c, but about half the ride was proper wading though horrendous mud as been raining and snowing solidly for last 3 weeks. - pics of the bike to give you an idea!

Ride was done in trail only, I haven't updated software on my bike in a long time, so trail mode is set to the highest level in the older version of the Steps app. Bike is running US software, assistance cuts out at about 19.5mph, so will use a bit more battery than EU Spec. I stopped with battery at 10% on my Garmin - I dont have the a display on my bike - wasn't sure how accurate the Garmin was relaying the information, as the battery went down to 4 bars with the Garmin saying 67% of battery used, so played it safe.

Garmin doesn't give me range data so cant comment on what that the system was predicting.

Given the conditions I was very pleased with the result and the ride was a hard slog though mud for large parts, only about 1 mile done on the road - I haven't manage more than 17 miles and 2000ft fish of elevation on the older battery on a similar route this year.

As my bikes not a Canyon I am going to move further discussion for me of the Battery on my bike to the Vitus thread, but thanks to the Canyon crew for all the help!

have any of you already seen the new, 630Wh external battery?

Maybe it is possible to replace the battery holder (BM-E8016) so that the BT-E8016 fits into the Spectral: ON frame?

"....
As well as the two downtube integrated options, the new 630Wh BT-E8016 becomes our largest external battery,
coming with a new fitting port, the BM-E8016 battery mount.

To upgrade from a current 504Wh BT-E8010 external battery to the 630Wh BT-E8016 external battery you need to
change the current battery mount to the new BM-E8016 battery mount.
This is because the 630Wh battery requires a reinforced battery holder to accommodate the change in its physical size.
You can contact your local dealer for more information
..."

I already asked Canyon, but no answer ...
Hey. Did you get an answer? Or does the smaller 500w battery fit to the new Spectral ON frame? Apologies if this has already been answere below

AFAIK you can replace the mount, or you can definitely modify the existing mount to work with the new batteries.

I finally got hold of a 630wh battery.

I did the mod on the fin which took a couple of minutes. New battery fits right in. And the old 504whsits in place well even with the mod.

I had to remove the bottle cage tho as I couldn’t make it for. But I’ll probably get a fidlock system so I can strap it on the top frame tube.

My bike is a Spectral On in medium size.

I've recently managed to buy a BT-E8016 battery for my Canyon Spectral ON 8.0. Have done the modification by removing the lug on the existing battery holder and the new battery fits into place however when you turn it on it doesn't seem to connect with the computer and simply turns off again within about 5-10 seconds. Any ideas?

That's odd - does it do the same thing if you put the 504wh battery in?

Try this:

1. Download the eTube app and launch it
2. Turn on the bike and immediate connect the app (you only have about 15 seconds for the bluetooth to connect)
3. Once connected see if the app recognises the battery.

Nope when I fit the 504kw battery back in it works fine. Can't understand why. I bought the battery from Deporvillage and it does state on the back of the battery that it's for North American use only but can't see there being any difference?

Thanks. Doesn't the bike computer need to work for it to connect?

Ok, try this:

1. Put the 504wh battery back in
2. Turn it on and connect the app
3. See if you are running the latest firmware, if not, update to the latest one
4. Turn off
5. Put the 8016 battery in and try again.

I'm hoping that you're running an old firmware on your bike and its not recognising the new battery.

Thanks again but I updated the firmware only a couple of weeks ago :-(

Great work from those who figured this out. What was the cheapest any got the battery for in the UK? Current best price looks around £560-580

I thought i'd share this.

I bought this DEUTER E-POCKET BIKE BAG and its perfect carrying a spare battery in your backpack. I've tried a couple of ebike specific backpacks before and just not happy with them so this is perfect for me. Might be useful for some of you.

It even fits the 630wh battery (second photo is with the 630wh battery in it).

I got it from here: https://www.sportsshoes.com/

Got it back home now and will attempt the mount surgery later. Weighed one of my 504wh batteries and the new one. 630wh is about 600g heavier, which tally up with what @norrit measured his at.

Its a big old lump for sure!

I have a medium frame and I think it would not fit, but you could install the shock upside down and then it probably would work.
