Why do the e8000 speed sensors fail?

It’s just a bit of wire with a magnet, how can it go wrong and cause a fail? Happened to two mates now both within 5 months of onwnership.

Probably broken cable?

Doubt it. Working fine, put the bike away, turned it on next time and sensor failed. That’s the same for both mates.
