Why the need for separate bearing cups
They seat in the frame by hand like many other bikes with zero stack headstocks

No press-in bearing cups on my Fuel EX 8 gen 5.
HOWEVER, yes, there is a lower press-in cup on my Fuel EX8 gen 6! Interestingly the top cup pushes in with fingers.

BTW... my FEX8g6 had a horrid creak noise from day 1. Finally traced it to: no grease at the interface between frame head tube and press in bearing cup.

Good question... The online service manual from the Trek site shows that it is to have grease.Interesting!
Should it really need grease there? Or tighter tolerance?
