Whats apps do you use to navigate between trails?

Good shout, I have had a fair amount of abuse!!! I quickly log it as a bike ride, then once I've checked out the segments, I change it back, but logging it as private is a far better idea!

I've tried Trailforks and Viewranger and either I'm using them wrong, where I live doesn't have too many trails mapped out, or they don't really give you that option. What do you use, if anything, when you're out and about in the middle of nowhere and you want to navigate from one trail to another without really knowing exactly where you are. Is that any options for that?

OS Maps / Google Maps and if I use Trailforks I check that the area is featured otherwise it's no use, hence the use of the aforementioned.

Strava need to catch up and realise that e-bikes actually exist and work on definitive categories, failure to engage with all cycling enthusiasts will inevitably piss people off, they should also recognise e-bikes in the profile / gear set-up, Strava are so focussed on the content of their platform that they have completely ignored the sub-categories within cycling.

Agreed, I don’t understand what makes it so hard to have the same segments for both MTB and eMTB and just have different leaderboards depending on the activity type.

To plan a bike ride of between 30-50 miles I use several pieces of software to map out the route. The first thing I use is Kamoot, to "Plan" the route on my PC. I manipulate the kamoot route by adding waypoints to keep me off main roads as much as possible. Once I'm happy with the route I download it as a GPS file and "Play back" the route in Google Earth.
Any point I'm still unsure of I use Instant street view Instant Google Street View This good for taking a look at the area and seeing what the access to the paths are like.
Once I've gone through all that I log in on my phone, which is attached to my handle bars and use Kamoot to navigate the route I created.
Using this method as proved invaluable as I don't drive so my knowledge of road numbers is very limited

i use mapy.cz, i prepare my rides on my laptop, the site and app use Open StreetMap, routes are instantaneously synched between devices.
it has a MTB setting that will prefer offroad, and not care about cobblestones, as opposed to the Road bike setting. its a czech app, translated to english, except, if i remember correctly, the part where you register.

the navigation is good, it has voices in most languages (or off), good UI, it tried all other apps, komoot included, mapy is my favorite by far. its good both at navigation and planning, and it made me discover places i didn't know existed, at just a few kilometers from my home, im re discovering the country i have lived in for all my life.

you can download the maps for your country, it reroutes automaticaly if you don't follow the track, even without an internet connection, and it's totaly free.

it goes really well with a motorola g7 Power (best battery life) and a quick lock to attach it to your bike (im a mac/ios user, but that phone can stay on, with fully lit screen for over 8 hours, GPS on and all.

IMHO Gaia the best and has 95% of the trails---this riding all over the US
And Mr Brownstone, I do explore--my goal is generally to get lost--then, when it's getting dark, or battery is getting dangerously low, I can start looking at Gaia

i downloaded it on my iPAD, i see no planning or navigation options, just a map with trails, does the phone version offer navigation ?

yes, the phone version does offer navigation (tutorials on you tube), although I rarely use this option and have found it a little bit cumbersome.

I've bought a lot of map tiles for this and they're great but I pay £25 Yr for full O.S. maps which you can download around your routes etc.

Pocket Earth on iphone is a great app. Much better than ordance survey which is surprising but true. Not sure if it does route guidance, but shows many more paths than ordance survey and is very accurate.

Arizona....I typically use TrailForks when needed to navigate around bike trails I'm not familiar with.
I use ViewRanger for fourwheeling when I preload .gpx routes I want to follow....have not tried for bike but would seem to work fine.

Mtb project has the most extensive map here in USA that I know of. Wahoo ELEMNT bolt is great for turn by turn nav at the trail.

I use MTB project but find Trailforks to be even better.

having just started finding trails in my area i tried most of them, i seem to have settled on Komoot, i find a trail (or the basis of one) i download the GPX to my Garmin edge, i use the offroad nav ability of the garmin (so it doesnt stick to roads), and essentially know the first ride on that route might be a bit 'exploratory', however once i have dont it once i save the route i actuakly road as a new course and follow that the next time, might take a few runs to finally refine the rooute, but seems like the only way. I haven't found a out of the box solution that works. All the trails are only peoples uploads so are likely to be a bit hit and miss

I have a garmin edge 820 that I have put trailforks on when I am out looking for new trails and it works perfectly in my opinion. I can also recommend the app Locus map for free which is actually for people who walk but they have very good features and show all paths even the smallest
