What tyres for UK rocky riding

I have a Cube Stereo Hybrid 140 2020. This weekend in the Lakes I managed to put a slice in the sidewall of the Hans Dampf (Addix Speedgrip) on the rear.

Any suggestions for something a bit more hard wearing? Riding a mix of trail centre and Lakes.

anything with a DH casing really (assuming you're running a lighter casing thsan those). including Scwalbe if you're happy with the tread and compound of the Hans Dampf simply buy the same tyre with a tougher casing eg. super downhill or super gravity.
WithMaxxis you'd be looking for DD or DH casing

If running tubeless, inserts may also help depending on whether you're tearing tyres by pinching them on your rims or not
and running higher pressures can help the tyre deflect off rocks although this is detrimental to grip.

you don't say what casing the schwalbe tyre has? Trail, super gravity etc.

You can go to maxxis tyres that have a 'Double Down' casing, or stick to schwalbe and go for a tyre that has either super trail or even more protected Super gravity casing.

edit: Gary beat me to it.

I believe it’s the Apex casing?

Running around 26psi. Maybe I should go a bit higher? Always ran that on my previous non ebikes.

OK, so I'm looking for another Hans Dampf but in Super Gravity as advised and my current compound of Addix Speedgrip.

Does this exist as all I can find in Super Gravity for Hans Dampf is Addix Soft?

speed grip is the blue, only in super trail casing.

No wonder I can't find it! Would soft be OK as a rear? Lakes and trail centre riding?

It's always a compromise somewhere with tyres. Heavier casing and soft compound will mean slower rolling. You will feel the difference.

I'm a recent convert to inserts. For your sort of riding I'm using Maxxis DD casing on the rear with a Cushcore insert and 22 psi on a 2.4 casing. I got Cushcore as I got a bargain, but on my other bikes I'm using Rimpact which is much cheaper and honestly seems totally fine. Ideally I would be using a 2.6 but I couldn't get one at the time.

Gary's advice above looks solid.

I use the Schwalbe Hans Dampf Super Gravity Current tyre and am 100kg - I had no issues at higher pressures (over 26PSI) but I started going to around 24 to 22 for a little more grip and to try it and dinged my rim and I don't ride big or hard IMHO(I'm a 62+ Whimp!). I'm keeping above 26PSI now. Not a tyre issue I know but it might help?

Don't underestimate the massive increase in comfort dropping to lower pressures though. I dropped my front from the usual 20 to 18PSI (cushcores & EXO DHF) for a very long tight rocky descent yesterday & it made the ride so much more enjoyable.

after ripping through sidewalls like you I changed to michelin wilds which were good but then changed both tyres to maxxis assegai in DH casing 2.5", I chose the maxxgrip but if I were buying again I would get a maxxterra for the rear instead and a DD for the front instead of DH casing..
