What is this, and I'm assuming it's broken? 160TM

Noticed this after a rough ride. Odd thing, if it's broken, is everything seems fine but it looks bad. Any idea what this is?
Thanks

You may not need it at all. Its only there to help prevent your chain from falling off the chainring in rough riding. I'm convinced some manufacturers put it there for looks to separate their bikes from the competition. Todays narrow wide chainrings combined with clutch derailleurs do a pretty good job at chain retention.
I would take the broken part off at the least, though.

This is exactly what I did. Thanks. After ordering a new part and looking at it, I was like yeah why would I need this with a single up front chain ring. It's in the parts drawer.
