Tyre Nightmare!!!

So basically got my front tyre off which took ages!!! Then saw that the tyre chain reaction cycles have sent me is the wrong size. They have sent me 29ers. So went to Halfords as they said they had the maxxis ardenta in. They then tried to fit the wheel to the rim (ar30) and said the 2.25 ardents were not wide enough and they had nothing wider. So went to go outdoors and bought a maxxis high roller 2.3 but they couldn't fit and by this time Halfords closed. So now sat in living room with the high roller 2.3 and rim and inner tube with pump. Is the maxis 2.3 wide enough for this rim ? And any suggestions or tips on how to put tyre on?

2.25 ardent will fit a 30mm rim. it would have a slightly better profile on a 25mm rim is all.

Halfords are hit and miss. sometimes you get a staff member who knows what they're talking about. sometimes you unfortunately get someone who just knows how to talk (generally pish)

Yes the highroller is wide enough but before you waste your money on another tyre tha's no faster rolling, what is it? compound/sidewalls? (all the lettering on the side?)

contact crc and get them to send the right size.. your return postage to them should be free

@Gary is it alright that some of the beading is showing. I've got the tyre on and blown it up but looks like this....

I don't see any pic.

no it's not ok if any of the bead is showing the bead all needs to be seated inside the rim.

Oh.. hold on. That's not the bead. it's just a line on the mould to show the tyre is mounted straight.
yours isn't.

Let it back down, seat the bead all round and carefully pump it up very hard it should pop straight before you reach 50psi. when it does stop pumping and leave it

cool. a HRII bisn't the fastest rolling tread but in that compound it should still roll faster noticibly for you.
What did you choose for the rear tyre?

I haven't yet. As just got this as I already took the front tyre off the front and really hated seeing it bare so rushed out to find the best I could at 7pm at night. Any suggestions that will fit and I'll order it now. Still thinking maybe the maxxis ardent race in the right size for back. Also I've let it die. And squeezed it all together and punnped it up again and that line is still slightly out ....

Remove one bead, take the tube back out and talc it so it slides in easier inside the tyre, re-insert the tube making sure it's not fouling the tyre/rim, refit the other bead and smear a a thin slither of washing up liquid on the bead (outside the tyre, not inside) with your finger on both sides. (you might nead to unseat the side you left on from the rim to smear the WUL on. then try again. as you start to pump it up go round making sure the tyre is straight with your thumbs, as you pump it up VERY hard. it should pop into place. mounted straight.

I've tried everything. It's just not sitting right in 1/4. I've used soap and the lot. Just going to have to take it to Halfords tomorrow and see if they can sit it right. So frustrating as I actually thought I had done it....also currently at about £100 on MTB tyres ...

I've had it to like 60 and someone on a forum reccormended silicon spray around edges so just used that. I've left it fully pumped up as some people say overnight it can seat itself if left pumped high.

You've done the valve collar up too tight. undo it and push the valve into the valve hole a little. the valve is pulling the tube down on the bead trapping it

once the valve is loose in the valve hole you should be able to basically massage the bead into place with your thumbs, you might need to lower the pressure to do so.

@Slowroller be careful with that advice with tubes. if the tyre's not seated evenly a tube can push the bead clean off with a lloud BANG!
for tubeless, if the bead is lubed (WUL or sealant) it's good advice.
Remember @Bongofish is new to all this

@Gary till no luck. The last clue I can give is that whichever side the line hides behind the rin, on the opposite side the tyre the line is above the rim. Like it's on an angle. So if line is above rim around valve in right side of tyre on left side you can not see the line.

Its getting late now . But all I can say is when the tyres is let down. The part that is not sitting correctly kind of sits in middle of rim like you can see the rim Either side of tyre when deflated. The rest of the tyre still sits nicely at the edge of the rim.

Its getting late now

let the tyre back down and sleep on it, you just need patience and persiverence.
it's better to learn this properly earlier than later as you're going to have to know how to do it outside if you ever puncture on a ride.

The reason I'm saying let it down now is two fold.
1 you'll have to start from the beginning properly
2 leaving the tyre seated squint at 60psi overnight isn't going to help later

When you do it tomorrow remember not to put the valve collar on at all and work your way around the bead at both sides unseating it from the rim while making sure the tube is seated inside the tyre all the way round with no twists or pincing.
