Trek Rail Pivot Protection Flap

Hi all Rail users, I have covered many miles in the last few months mainly muddy trails around the ridgeway but also number of dusty and sandy runs over at woburn sands. So my problem was muck, dust and debris getting stuck in the gap above the pivot. My worry would be stones and alike getting caught up and doing further damage. After looking on many forums, and testes a few plastic products, I've come up with the following design, that provides flexibility, yet still protects the pivot. Which ridged plastic ones do not seem to do as the leave a gap when the bike flexes for debris to get stuck in still.

Thanks for the simple solution @Trekka Just sourced a thick piece of rubber to do the same thing today. Something that flex makes good sense.

Hi, cheers for that, the issue with the Haibike is that there isn't anything to clamp it to low down - the round seatpost tube doesn't start till quite high up. Ideally it would need to be glued but I'm not sure if I want to do that either. Hmm...

Hi, take a close up pic and send model number of your bike and I will have a think and see if I can come up with a solution for you...

For my homemade flap, which looks just the same as above, I use neoprene held securely in place with insulation tape. The only problem is that you create a platform for a huge pile of mud to build up on.

Perfect, yep thats exactly what I am after, looks very similar in shape to what I would need on the Haibike too. Just need to find a bit of neoprene now
I wasn't sure how well neoprene would stick to double sided pads, but that looks pretty secure to me.

Took a page out of @Trekka playbook and did couple of things different. Fit and function are perfect so far. Thickness is about 1/8"

Hi, sorry I meant to say thanks for the offer, but I managed to work a solution my end.

The gap on the Haibike is actually pretty small but I still found the odd small stone got in there. So I found an old piece of 2.5mm EVA foam sheet and cut it as small as I could but still cover the gap and give a good attachment point. EVA isn't as tough as neoprene but I'll see how it goes.

Here's my version, self adhesive foam ( 1mm I think) with duct tape on the part that hangs down so it slides and heli tape on swing arm for wear. I didn't think it would last that long but its been on since August!

I see a lot of confusion and conjecture about the bosch rattle, what it sounds like, how loud it is, what conditions cause it etc. I think I've found a way to recreate the rattle noise on demand, by agitating the chain ring quickly back and forward...

Mud always get stuck between the frame and motor and it's difficult to get out, hopefully this should sort it

I went with Gorilla tape, cheap, quick and works.... Not the best looking mod though. Clearly an opportunity for someone with a 3D printer.
