I paid 6 grand for it in 2019, ragged it, kids have left sausage rolls from last year in it, its scratched and dented, gearbox is knackered and engine sounds like its on fire; but thanks to covid/brexit/other-buzzwords I'm open to offers above 15 grand ?
Sounds a right bargain ..especially with those sausage rolls thrown in ..but alas Ive already had a Greggs this morning otherwise I would be on my way now with £20k in a brown paper bag ..

The Trail.
Never been on one of these monthly Rideouts, ao just wondering what trail difficulty are you aiming for? Red-like? Black-like? Cheers

The trails are mostly red like around Surrey Hills, nothing too onerous; if there are jumps/drops they can be ridden around like most reds ?

Looking on at this thread in envy as I would love to make it but have a previous arrangement for this weekend.

Have great fun and please do another one soon so that I can join (y)

Nothing that brutal in the hills.

Mostly short sub 2 minute trails. All great fun and a nice mix of flowy stuff and some bits of light technical trails.

A couple of trails with some drops that can easily be ridden around.

I've only ever parked in Walking Bottom 2 (the one at the bottom of the hill) but its always been rammed from about 9. This car park may be fine though. Worth a local confirming.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and for a Sunday, Hurtwood 1 was pretty dead when we rode through about 9:30, we should be ok.

@VWsurfbum, do you know any good off piste near that car park? Only really go over there for yogurt pots on the way for a summer lightning loop.

Managed to get out today for my 2nd ride since I broke myself. Just my local hicks lodge Blue, it’s damp today and that was the difference between Saturdays ride, strangely I felt the front go again right at the end of the ride when I was hitting a bend just on the hill at the bottom of a track to the main road.

I have never had DHF before although I used to run a DHR on the front of my old old Levo with no issue, I think I’m really missing the feeling of the magic Mary up front that I’ve been used to for the last couple of years. Can’t get one for love nor money!

I guess this is my excuse up front in case I stack it on Sunday. Joking aside I’m really looking forward to getting back out with a group again, but I might have to be dropped as I don’t want to hold anyone up.

also I ripped my rain coat when I came off and haven’t replaced it yet, weather looks like it might just be a little damp,I’ve only been once to the hills and it was summer, any thoughts on needing a jacket?

If you buy a new jacket for this Sunday, sod's law says the more you spend the more likely it is to be dry so get that money canon loaded!

Ok i bungled this together in my lunch break with many many interruptions, so if we keep it to the main "ish" trails so they'll hold up better in the weather but it will still have plenty of features, etc, and if anyone knows diversions of decent off-piste on the route that will be awesome.
There's loads of short little shoots off pitch and the other viewpoints but some can get very hairy very quickly to the ones who haven't ridden there much.

So what the total distance and elevation gain? I am reading circa 20 miles and 2075ft (not used Komoot before!) my 4 year old 500wh battery might not last the distance, so might have to pop in the 625.

Looks like first trail is EL Capitan?

Yoghurt pots first, then looping round to pick up Telegraph I think?

Funnily enough I did pretty much the same ride tonight  A few puddles but otherwise the trails are running nicely after the recent rain(y)

Ahh misread the map and you are correct - I thought where it said 1 was the start, but figured it out now

I did 34km and 850m elevation tonight and finished with 20% on my 625 battery. So 500 might be cutting it a little fine. Mind you, I was on my own and pushing on a bit to beat the light with plenty of emtb mode.

Problem is my 500wh is getting on for 500 odd charge cycles so aint putting it out like she used to. No worries as I have a bigger battery to hand, just prefer the bike with he smaller battery to ride.

I'll be on a heckler with 500 battery, pretty much will be riding in Eco and they'll be plenty of cut places if need be. I think with a group ride we'll be going slower and not blasting around anyway. you should be fine.

Depends on how you tackle the route, the car park is where the red circle is, I would have though its likely we will stop for a flapjack and coffee at the Peaslake Store so all the influencers can get there instabangers at this world famous spot

Cant quite work out from Kamoot at which point we cross through. I do a fairly similar route most weeks and I do a battery swap half way if it look like I am going over 20 miles. My 500wh is over 4 years old though, so lucky to get more than 15 miles out if it if riding solidly in trail and over 2000ft of climbing.

This is the first ever Forum ride that was done back in 2018 which was a similarish route, all of us where on fresh 500wh batteries, and iirc ride was done mostly in trail with a bit of eco. Batteries totally dead by the end mind. Gives you an idea of the range.

I'm very jealous; I am visiting my Mum in the South Wales borders this weekend so i can't be with you..

I have ridden the Surrey Hills almost every Saturday morning for 17 years; it would be great to meet fellow minded (Eebs and "longer in the tooth" riders) and ride out together; I'll make sure I'm on the next one
I was out last weekend there and all the trails were fine with no additional "trail fairy" gaps or modifications; the only caution is that some of the older trails are "no go" areas as the land owner has withdrawn permission to ride (due to trail builders I think) such as Secret Santa.
On "Thick n Creamy" the drop-off 2/3rds of the way down is not everyones cup of tea but easily ridden around. Northern Monkey is also a mecca for the "jumpers" (not me I just watch my twin boys do it!) but looks great if you have the ability.
Not sure if these are on your plans but I wish I was with you; I'm looking forwards to the post ride posts in this thread
Have a great ride
Steve (I ride the only grey Orbea Wild M10 in the hills if anyone ever sees me and wants to say hello)

The Car park we are using is where the A&B is on the loop up Radnor road. we'll be able to pass the cars if needed but if everyone is riding within the group level, one battery should be more than enough.
We'll work out between us who is faster/slower, bigger battery/slower battery and who to send down first ;)

Ahh makes sense now - Kamoot looks good, will have to explore it some more

I ran out of battery on that first forum ride and I lost my 2 week old iPhone X.

I think I will leave my phone in the car this time but I must confess my 630w EP8 isn’t going to allow me to use more than eco without gambling on an unpowered ride back to the car.
