I’ve just got another set of wheels for commuting on (slicks etc). Naturally I’ll need a Steps magnetic sensor for the rear wheel too. These things seem to be incredibly expensive for what they are (part number: Y70L98010, around £25 in the UK).

Anyone have any joy using a Catseye or Garmin type spoke sensor? I have a feeling it’s not built out toward the frame sensor enough.

If your bike uses the DUE10 speed sensor, you can get a replacement speed sensor for about £22 which comes with the above magnet and spacers included.

I ripped my speed sensor off by picking up a stick in the back wheel the other week. LBS fitted a new one but ive just gone and bought another (off that auction site) so I have a backup in case it happens again.

A Cateye sensor is £1.50. It’s just a magnet that costs 10p underneath that too.

I’ll report back when I’ve tried a couple of things ;)
