Sram EX1 Cassette option's for road use.

I have been chatting to Kernow about cassette option's, for a second set of wheels that are to be used on tarmac, the only Cassette available, as far as I can find, is the, XG 899 E Block 11-48 8 speed. It's a fair chunk of change and its spread of ratio's is just too wide for the road. If anyone has any insight's on alternatives that might work, or has actually done it I would be keen to hear from them.

As I understand it EX1 uses an 10 speed chain, with eight cog's that have, ten speed spacing, with a single click, ten speed shifter that is limited to eight shifts

It can't be as simple as just buying a 10 speed cassette and only being able to use the top eight can it

Don't think you will be able to get a higher gear via cassette without either going 11/12spd SRAM using the XD driver or one of the exotic gear sets out there. 11T is the smallest on a Shimano hub as far as I am aware. Easier to change a front ring to increase gearing. Doesn't help with a second set of wheels......

Don't really want two spend any more out on XD driver, if I can help it......found this.......it's cheap at the moment...and the top eight ratio's would be

TBH I already have everything I need to convert it to XT M8000, but I am really hoping that the EX1 is the way to go, makes so much sense.

Especially if someone makes an 11-42 for it, just to tighten up the gaps a smidge, I think that would be perfect

You can change the big ring on SRAM 11 & 12 spd cassettes, you may be able to do the same on EX1.

I'm pretty sure the big four gears are machined from one piece of hardened tool steel, it's the four smaller ones that are replaceable individually

But I will check

It looks like the big ring is the same style as X01 & XX1. If you look the ‘cooling’ slots go the opposite way to the others on the machined section.

I suspect they already do. It would be a surprise if SRAM have come up with a new big ring mounting method just for EX1. ??

I just can't find the info Still only another 34 days...........

You need one of these jap Preferably the blue one ? but the one behind it has a two speed rear hub as well as the usual gears

I don't know how this works with other motors, but if you have a a bosch motor, I think you need to update your software if you change your cassett and the biggest or smallest cog changes more than 10%.

Yes that’s Steve’s bike , he’s 70 plus and keeps up with the roadie on it over 40 miles , I have to slow down on the flat and downhill and he waits for me at top of hills , typical ebiker can’t just ride with me ?

FYI, take the EX1 cassette off and grease it.

The B adjustment is critical for smooth shifting.

Spines are a good idea in general, but specifically there is a floating spacer inside the cassette that will squeek in certain gears if not properly lubricated.
