Got hold of a luggage scale and weighed my 2020 levo expert.

Edit, just thought.. Perhaps I should have taken my lights off before weighing it lol.. that's a whole extra 74.57grams lol

Yes, you definitely can use the bike without the battery. The 504MW battery in the 2018 weighs about 3KG.

On a side note: what a stupid law in Washington! Hopefully this changes soon. eBikes create no more damage to trails than non eBikes. Some argue they cause LESS damage.
Personally, I would still ride with the battery. I hate stupid rules.

I converted my 2020 s4 kenevo expert to a full 29er and the bike is a beast. Couldn’t be happier with the performance. With 29” specialized carbon wheels, butcher gravity tires, carbon bars and magura mt7 brakes the bike weighs in a 52lbs / 23.6 kg. Shocking thing to me is that it only weighs 1.1 lbs / .5kg more than my 2022 s5 s-works levo. Both bikes have the same specialized butcher gravity 2.6 tires.

No issues with the 29” rear wheel w/ 2.6 tire. It has the same clearance as my 2019 levo. Will take pics.

Thats what I'm figuring as well but was curious if pedal efficiency was also a benefit

That aint good.

I ride mine all the time with battery off and with no battery. Rides fine.

Yep. And I guarantee you are spending a not-insignificant portion of your effort driving the motor. Like riding the bike with 5 psi taken out of the tires. It rides fine. No, really.

Good enough that I gave away my enduro bike. Have 2 bikes now. The Levo and a DH race single speed. So the Levo rides sans battery anywhere ebikes are not allowed, lift parks, when I ride with a group who do not have ebikes. But the the #1 reason to turn the battery off is to prove to your buds that it ain't the "e" bike making you faster than them. LOL

Rides fine.... I just keep the tires at 35psi!

But since you do what I wanted to do originally before finding out the motor saps effort, Have you ever smashed the downtube on something? Seems like the battery opening is protected simply by the battery filling the tube and the battery cover over the opening.

I have visions of having on off or smashing down on a log or rock and pinching the downtube just a little bit..... Just enough that the battery doesn't go in anymore.

You ever think about that issue, or take precautions for it?

For sure. If you take the battery out you will hit the plug with your cranks and break it off. You have to take that plastic cover off the battery (I have a spare) and put it on. I have a carbon so it would get crack the downtube opening for sure.

My ghetto method is still the best I have found so far. Blue painters tape around downtube and plastic cover. Then another row of blue tape around the plastic cover closer to the cranks so it holds the plug in place.

My buddy races his levo in ebike enduro. His plug came out and he broke it and tore it off and broke magnetic tabs. He now tapes his all the time.

We have a couple of lift parks that wont allow a "battery". Who knows why? But the levo is great for park riding. Mine is 160 rear and 170 front. I really have not rode anything I like better......or I am just super used to it.

yeah, I can't even imagine running carbon without the battery for that reason. bending the tube would be upsetting, but cracking would be tragic.
