I just picked up my new Levo.
You get a bunch of guff with it, including all the manuals on a CD.
A CD!
I've long since had nothing with which I can read a CD.
Kinda quaint, actually.

I also was surprised about the CD but the reason is in USA they're widely used since they're lacking behind in the tech world

I heard that cheques (sorry, checks) are still used there. Also somehow quaint.
Just don't ask anyone from the UK how one proves ones ID, e.g. when opening a bank account...
In other news, the government in Japan recently announced that they no longer need data on floppy discs for government submissions: Japan government accepts it’s no longer the ’90s, stops requiring floppy disks

They could at least think about the environment by not shipping CD outside USA but maybe the logistics is to difficult

still cheques in the UK, every banking app has the ability to scan them.
I really only ever see them when I get a refund from a utility company.

Actually, the charger, manuals (paper + CD) and a few other bits and pieces come in a very nice semi-hard zip box. The kind you might keep a GoPro in.

I have noticed that fax is still used a lot in Germany. So should the manuals be faxed to German customers instead of the CD

In the US we stopped reading those in the 1990's. Actually that is not true, we never read those.

The odd thing is, that there is always the need here to state that what you just said was a joke, even if it was obvious. Then "Spaß beiseite" (joking aside) to indicate that we are now going to be serious. Makes me smile every time.

Can confirm that some of our customer still order by fax. And these are pretty large orders. Only a handful now, though.

how much does printing a manual really cost, and they weigh almost nothing anyway.

you might never read it more than once but imo it's still nice and a sign of a premium product..

QR code stickers just seem like a budget manufacturer. Sure for forks when they link to the setup calculators that makes perfect sense, but linking to manuals I hate it.

Manuals make nice places to keep receipts etc together too

Sounds like something I either need to store or will look at once and throw away.

I’m probably the exception, but the only thing that would be useful to include is a single sheet of paper with all the torque specs for the bike, which I can fold up and put in my torque wrench box.

another would be a full breakdown of every part on the bike on a spec sheet.
usually they don't tell you what the hubs are, what the free wheel is etc....

but they will tell you the model of the spokes.... and wheel rims..
we shouldn't have to ask customer support what part they used on a bike

Yeah, I reckon this is the result of some law, and a CD is the cheapest possible way to comply. Smart really, since I bet the info on there isn't interesting.

Faxes are being used again by companies to send sensitive information - they can't be hacked like emails.

you buy something, take a photo of the receipt and store it in the notes app with some keywords, job done. a barcode can always link to the most recent version of a manual, your glossy paper keeps its errors for eternity. remember the wrong seat post insertion depth of the gen 1 kenevo sl manual? yeah, good luck with that…

Vinyl died off decades ago, and it's now back big time, and there are billions, if not trillions of CD's and DVD's lurking out there, sooner or later, people will want to play them again. The format will be back.........
People are getting pissed off with the faceless convenience of streaming and downloads, it's easy, but a lot is missing.

The excitement of knowing a new album or single was released on Saturday morning, getting a bus to the local town, picking a brand new shiny disc out of the rack, and rushing home to play it 10 times in a row. Very special magic times......
These days, stream it, if a song hasn't hooked you in 5 seconds, skip it, but you're not really listening anyway because you're really on social media, talking shite and bragging about shite.....

Still got some cds van has no blue tooth so handy as radio reception is crap in a lot of remote scottish Glen's. Venal long gone but I remember the joy of waiting for an album to be released. Same as reading I love a book but the amount of people who say I should get a kindle but not for me.

I don't have blue tooth in van its a 04 Toyota Alphard. This works well when parked up for the night though.

The adapter plugs into your fag lighter. It has Bluetooth.

Your phone connects to that then it does a local FM/radio broadcast on the channel you choose.

Tune your car radio into that channel and voila, your phone Bluetooth output comes out of your car speakers.
