Sometimes - no power assist on start up - even though the display is on

A couple of times recently when I turned on the Steps E800 motor - the assist doesn’t come on. The display is on and shows maybe a little bit of assist if I crank hard but nothing normal. So far I had to turn the battery off and on to clear the problem. One time I had to turn it off and on a couple of times to do this. Anyone else have similar experience or can guess what is going on?
