hello all and thanks for accepting me onto the forums.
Im looking to buy my first ebike..
My current bike is a Trek 7x mtb and i love the feel of it but it is slow when not going down hill, so hence my interest in an ebike.

There is currently a sale from a chinese website called banggood.com where im looking at one of these:

Ostensibly they seem like very similar bikes with the main difference being 500w motor + 2" tyres vs 1000w + 4" for 200e more

Any input at all would be valuable to me as i need to make a decision soon as they are sale items. Im aware ill likely have to pay 30%customs tax on top of the priceshown

Those are both absolutley terrible quality and will be horrible to ride even on the road.

if you're on a tight budget go to Halfords and buy their Carerra Subway Ebike.
if you're a BC or AA member Halfords will offer you a 10% discount bringing it under a grand. (worth joining BC for)

Add a decent set of tyres if planning on riding off road
a decent budget suspension fork can be added if you feel you need it.

Will Banggood actually ship this to Ireland?
Remember that you'll also get stung for customs costs. I've bought many Bits of crap off Banggood but never would I consider a bike. As said above at least with Halfords you'll get some kind of warranty

you would be much better off buying an Ebike kit and putting it onto your current bike.

Really?
We don't know anything about his current bike.

I recommended the above Carerra to my neighbour. He's a recreational rider in in his 60s knows very little about bikes and had previously been riding a well maintained (by me) 30yr old Diamond back hardtail.
The Carerra is fairly basic and sort of industrial but a solid bike for the local off road tracks he rides round here. not being a mtber he doesn't notice any of the drawbacks of the hub motor and would definitely need the after sales support/warranty from Halfords were something to go wrong with his motor/battery/controller etc. I'm happy to sort him out with any mechanical issues.
I chose a more suitable set of off-road Schwalbe tyres for him, set them up tubeless, added good offroad capable mudguard set and he's loving blatting about the tracks on it.

The only thing that would put me off the budget Decathlon E bikes is the cheap non-adjustable (spring weight) fork.
They're not absolutely terrible forks as far as proper budget forks go but if you're over a suitable rider weight for the spring the whole bike will ride badly

My current bike is a trek 7x
- i was considering whether it would be better to buy a conversion kit or not.

Can anyone say what exactly is bad about the SMLRO brand? ive never seen a motor that size for the price, and i dont know enough to know which parts are good and bad, it has shimano derailers which i thought were a good brand
