Motocross helmets aren't ideal for MTB or eMTB.

Motocross helmets are generally thicker, hotter, bulkier, less forgiving in a slow-speed crash and aren't really fit for purpose when it comes to Mountain Biking.
You have to remember that a Motocross helmet is designed for crashes that occur between 60-100kmh (or more), whereas MTB helmets are designed for slower impacts from 1-60kmh, more-or-less.
Things like MIPS and other rotaional-force-dissipation technologies are only effective in the right circumstances.
A heavy Moto helmet could actually make things worse in a slower-speed accident on an eBike.

Personally, if I was riding Moto and eBiking, I'd have helmets for both and they wouldn't cross over.

I would get a light, sub 1kg, MTB full face if I were you. They can be tiring enough on a long day out, a hotter heavier motorbike helmet would probably suck. I had a moped helmet when I got into MTB, and straight away knew I wanted something lighter when I thought about using it for MTB!

I will vouch for the giro tyrant, mine is now headed for the bin after a crash leaving me with a 3cm bleed on the brain, the helmet is several years old and held its own.

I will replace it with a light full face though, after having what I now know is called a 'lip vulsion'. (Fixing it took 9 injections to the gum, and 45 minutes of stitches to the back of my lower lip/gum over a 75mm width)

I have had a ton of helmets over the years from 1984 or so. They were for racing go karts and Moto X, riding four wheelers and bicycles. I have always spent in the middle of the road for price. I have worn Simpson, Arai, Fox, Fly Racing, TLD, etc. Everyone else has stated the new MTB helmets offer great crash protection and ventilation. I recently caved in the side of a TLD half lid on a tree at speed. I ended up with some bad abrasions on my lower jaw line and neck. I attribute not getting hurt worse to the design of the TLD helmet with MIPS. I just ordered a TLD D4 full face and couldn't be happier. If you are even remotely riding hard get a good helmet!

I have a Giro Switch Blade and love it. Best of both worlds 3/4 or full face and DH rated. I actually like the D rings better for fastening the helmet.

I have the Fox carbon pro, very expensive $500 xl, fits tight enough to prevent face plants from hitting the chin bar. I've replaced the magnetic visor 4 times, usually takes two face plants to brake in two. On my second helmet, full face, best helmet money can buy, and most importantly have my teeth, and whatever brains a mountain biker has to begin with.

Warm Regards Ruti

Like others said already, weight and ventilation so mountain bike for sure. I have been riding single track trails on my mountain bikes with Bell 3R fullface helmet for a few years bow and very happy with it. Its light, with good ventilation and looks good too. Make sure you get one with MIPS system. The 3R is convertible with the chin guard being removable but I have a separate helmet for gravel or road.

I got a Kali protective 2.0 invader off amazon for about $159. Great FF helmet with lots of ventilation. Feels like a half shell with the protection of a full face.

I have a friend that rides moto with a full face mtn bk helmet. 😅. For me, I've been knocked off my mtn bk and moto by hitting tree branches. I've even had branches grab the top loop on my camelbak. I wear the correct helmet for the correct sport. For winter ebiking I wear a snow board helmet with close-able vents.

Depends if you need it for EMTB and dirt biking. I have and FXR dirt bike helmet I would use for MTB if I needed, it weighs under 1200g and is pretty vented. It was $300 Cdn I think. Don’t cheap out on helmets, it’s your head, it’s the last place anyone should be looking to cut costs on. For moto I will not cheap out on helmets or boots, I’ve hit my head quite a few times over my 30 or so years and well as hurt my lower leg/ankle, tore my Achilles because I wasn’t wearing my proper boots.

My advice (from experience) would be this helmet, offers best protection & versatility for mtb use, remove chinbar when climbing in warmer weather, snap it back on for flyin’ downhill/tech trails, its still lighter and more ventilated than a full-face DH helmet!

I also purchased this helmet had a good write up when it first come out
I got it because when your riding you can adapt it to the different terrains being ridden, and the giro goggles fit perfectly aswell
