If you have the Diagnostic Interface Shimano SM-PCE02, you can plug it to your bike and use a laptop to finish the FW update. Else, yo'll have to go to your LBS and they´ll do this for you.

Had the exact same issue, phone was on full battery as was bike, both in same room as router, bike turned off mid update and is now 'bricked' and will not turn back on.

I believe the app and the update force your bike to shutdown...

Contacted Canyon as bike is not even 12 months old, reply from Canyon was this...

'Unfortunately, if you update the firmware on your bike wirelessly, this issue can occur as connection can be lost. In future, we would recommend only updating the firmware using a wired connection using the professional version of the e-tube software found here: '

I personally find this totally unacceptable, there is no mention of this in the setup booklets, the Etube app is actively promoted by Shimano to keep your bike updated and in good working order and all the main social media agents promote it as well. I have since spoken to Canyon who have said they know of many people having this issue and advised me to never update via the app, that the update program actually triggers the bike to reboot then the connection is lost and the update can not finish. Shimano should make their dealer level wired interface readily available to the consumer if that is what is required to install an update without the risk of killing your expensive bike.

If this is a known issue why are Shimano even releasing updates by app and bluetooth, it is clearly a flawed system. If an update should only be carried out by dealer software on a wired connection this be should clearly stated in the setup manuals.

So no riding for me this week :(

Probably not many people visit German emtb forum here so I will give you some hint. Bikes from Shimano with battery not made by SHIMANO and with charge port inside battery (confirmed for Focus and Canyon) have this problem if upgrade required restart (motor case). It happens because restart needs to be done in correct moment but battery in Canyon and Focus does this not according to Shimano. It will not allow you to update motor. It was already reported half year ago

Cheers Lockin great bit of information, wish I was aware of that before I hit the update button! You would think they would inform of this when you buy the bike, this is my 2nd Canyon and have found their customer service to be excellent so was surprised with their reply when saying don't carry out updates given this is the 3rd update for the drive unit since I purchased the bike. Luckily the other 2 worked though one did have an error midway through.
