Is this a warranty claim? 4 months without your bike is awful! If you stick with the EP6, then demand that you get the extra 4 months added to your warranty period.

If the problem of delay is restricted to the EP6 motor, then maybe an EP8 could be supplied instead. I believe that the EP801 may not be as easy a change as the EP8, but I don't KNOW for certain.

In addition, I honestly don't KNOW whether you can replace an EP6 motor with an EP8, but I would guess at yes. It's worth asking Shimano. Maybe someone on here could answer your question.

You will certainly notice the difference!

Ep8 isnt compatible but the ep801 is unfortunately they wouldnt entertain the idea and said in the same line that it could be longer wait time. This is now my 3rd shimano e bike over the past 3 years and every time the motors failed was really hoping the ep6,ep801 better sealing had helped....Baffles me that even with there reputation over the years of motors failing they still can't seem to hold onto warranty stock. I will definitely be pushing to get that time waiting on a new motor extended on my warranty.

I run a Bafang M510 in a Shimano frame using adapters, the M510 is smaller than the Shimano E8000 so it wasn’t to hard to retro fit.
36V you should be able to use the same battery.

Very interesting, do you have any more details?

See the attached photo a Bafang M500 ghosted over a Shimano E8000.
Also a photo of the bike I installed into that is designed for Shimano

Milage on the motor and what does the shop say has failed? What were your symptoms?

Not saying it's not dead, but in my experience with warranty claims in automotive and now commercial HVAC, a lot of electronics get replaced and nothing was wrong with the said part.

There's also several shops that can repair bearings and other mechanical parts in these motors if the wait time will be that long.

Very nice, thanks. Where did you get the brackets made up? I've got a spare frame and would be interested in giving this a go
The Bafang motor has narrower mounting lugs, I made them using 3mm aluminium plates, I would say you need make them suit your frame but it’s pretty easy to nut out.

Pretty sure that NZ Consumer law would deem the months-long wait unacceptable and force the LBS to refund you as your remedy...in which case you then move onto something "more reliable".
