Shimano E8000 - not smooth, 18nph top speed

Hello, we just got a eMTB. The demo was very impressive, however the new bike we got seems not right.

When we apply pressure/effort to pedals motor starts, until first revolution then it cuts out. This is even with same pressure applied. Reducing pressure has no effect. Increasing pressure restarts the motor. The result is a very choppy ride at low to medium efforts. Also the top speed is 18nph and the walk mode doesn’t work. Will go back to shop though I know they will have to contact manufacturer. Hoping some of you have ideas to try.

My guess is there is a torque sensor that is not right.

All firmware is up to date as of last night

Thanks
Lance

Did it work before firmware update? I've read so many things going wrong with them after doing an update I'm a bit scared to update mine.b

If you’ve just bought it new you shouldn’t have to wait for a dealer to contact manufacturer , the bike shouldn’t have been sent out faulty . So it’s iether fix it there and then or direct replacement or money back . It may just need plugging in to the dealer computer

Did you turn it on without applying any pressure to the pedals?
Could be a 0013 error where it senses pressure and starts with low power.
Any error codes shown?

Also check the wheel magnet is aligned with the chainstay sensor - if it isn’t the bike won’t work properly.

What bike is it?

? If I induce that error by touching pedals while turning on I have no power , I have to switch off and on again . All the error codes I’ve managed to see w0010 woo12 and wo13 all seem to be random and always down to the above user error or a dirty conector on top of motor . Every time there has never been any drive at all after an error code .

Wow. Thanks for all the response. What a great group.

It is a Felt eSurplus 50

Any advice on how to properly set up the magent on the wheel magent in relation to the sensor on the frame. It is about 1.5” long - where should magnet align to?

There are no error codes. It operated this way both before and after firmware update.

Sounds normal if it's in a stand. One crank will exceed the speed limit. Engagement is a bit harsh in boost mode and there is a bit of overrun. Assist drops off quickly at 18mph, there is minimal assistance up to 20. Is riding a trail in trail mode have the same issues?

Sorry dirty bike just back from ride , but the magnet should align just behind the mounting bolt pointing at the plastic body
