Well, after it suddenly dropped from 100% to 90% after 10 charge cycles, it took a further 50 charge cycles to drop to 79%

The battery is packed ready to send back under warranty.

They might replace it, they might just send it back. But it's worth a try.

Yes. That drop to 79% mirrors mine very closely.

And why do we keep seeing this "79%" figure popping up so often?

I talked to my LBS. I told them to submit the claim to Santa Cruz for the motor and battery, (and possibly the charger).

l've fitted the new battery and been out, the range isn't much more than the old battery which had a "health" of 79% according to Stunlocker

lt's certainly not 20% better. l was getting around 30 miles from my old battery and the brand new one was rinsed at 33 miles

Im used to get +- 45/50 km and 2000m climb

Now I'm getting 35/40 Km and 1700 m Climb

The lost of range was very sudden.

The shop have made one update, i suspect the lost of range have something to do with that...

1 year old E8010 battery down to 87% health after only 20 cycles, can it be warrantied? That range loss isn't normal, my old battery needed 100 cycles to hit that percentage.
By the way that battery is 3 years old and is at 83% health after 190 cycles, it's quite good.

Mines gone back to the bike shop under warranty after dropping to 87% after 60 charge cycles.

So far they've had the battery two months and still no news, they recently emailed me to say Bosch had asked for a photo of the bike's battery connection and how often the bike is used.

I replied, reminding them that the battery and motor are both Shimano units. l've not heard anything since.

Good job l've got a spare battery

Hi everyone, thanks for the helpful thread.

I have been driving the MERONE eONE-SIXTY 900-E size XL since March 2019,
my beloved wife has been driving the eONE-SIXTY M#RIDA METALLIC CRIMSON (RED LIGHTNING) size M since July 2019.

We use Shimano EC-E6000 chargers,
battery 2x Shimano BT-E8010, Li-ion 36V-14 Ah-504 Wh,
and from 6.2021 1x Shimano BT-E8016, Li-ion 36V-17.5 Ah-630 Wh.
Sometimes I use a M#rida battery that my wife rides on and vice versa.

We use e-Bike for a normal ride for fun and well-being, on all possible surfaces, all year round. No bike parks, no washing with running water. In winter, we use long fenders as well as neoprene battery covers, so the actual range is lower due to the cold.

My wife, I found out, drives about 65% in ECO mode, I drive 95% in ECO mode.

Until 20.2.2022, the situation is as follows -
- According to Shimano, the Merida 900-E has 22,770 km / 14,143 miles, according to Garmin 294,585 meters / 966,485 feet in 1,144 hours; from 1.2.2022 I drive an E8000 engine, which was lent to me by our bike dealer.
- According to Shimano, M#rida has 7,258 km / 4,508 miles, according to Garmin 106,119 meters / 348,159 feet in 444 hours.
- The Meri 8010 battery has 122 charge cycles, 82% capacity.
- The M#ri 8010 battery has 67 charge cycles, 88% capacity.
- The Meri 8016 battery has 25 charge cycles, 96% capacity.

Maybe these are pretty comparable results, right?
Translated by Googletranslator, thanks.

Sorry l meant 78% not 87%
Exactly the same as yours. The Shimano warranty actually states that they will replace the battery if the status drops below 78% in less than 200 charge cycles
Do you have that in writing? Madison are telling my LBS that anything above 73% in the first two years is just dandy.

Shimano documentation states that specification is 80% at 500 cycles. May be we should start to lawyer up.

Madison are replacing my battery, l've got a new one arriving this week.

So they will replace a battery that's gone below 80%, although mine intermittently shuts off in "Boost" once it's down to less than about 30% charge remaining

Did you go directly to madison, or through your LBS?

My LBS doesn't have a version of software which can see the battery degradation and when I spoke to madison, they said speak to the LBS as they won't deal with the public directly...

I returned the battery to the bike shop, they said they put it on a bike and ran "diagnostics"
The shop said Shimano (Probably Madison) wanted a photo of the battery connector on the bike, and to know how often the bike was used.

l passed on the information they requested and received a phone call the next day from the shop to say a new battery was being sent to me.

Not all Shimano batterys are affected some behave relative normal. Mainly BT-E8035 and some BT-E8010 are the one that make Problems.

I checked my BT E8010 batteries again.

Battery 1 - 15 months old - 42 cycles - 96% - shows 59 miles range in eco fully charged (original battery)
Battery 2 - 11 months old - 40 cycles - 80% - shows 49 miles range in eco fully charged

The range in eco seems to match the battery wear figure in ST Unlocker ( 80% / 96% * 59 miles = 49.16 miles)

Definitely noticing less range with the Battery 2. Feels more like 30% - 40% loss compared to the original battery. Last ride it died after 20 miles and 1500ft. Time to try the warranty I think.

I sent my battery back to the bike shop under warranty when it had dropped to 87% after 60 charge cycles.

l was sent a new battery. ln the meantime l bought a spare as it took over two months to get the replacement and l haven't even opened the package with the new battery in yet!

lt's been sat in the spare room since earlier this year.

Shimano use to ship batteries with very low charge, you better open it and charge it at 70% to store it properly.

I thought that Shimano only does warranty replacements when the Battery HEalth drops below 80%, you are lucky.

Interestingly, I've just had a new motor in which has later firmware installed and the battery is now showing 89% health after 60 cycles when it was showing 79% before...

Yep, I updated my firmware and battery health went from 80 to 90% on the newer battery (no change for older battery still at 96%)

You can infer the battery health percentage from the range in eco with battery fully charged. 100% health = 100km range.
