Self extracting crank stripped thread

Hi all
So went to remove the drive side crank arm and intitially the self extractor was tight, then lossen and remained loose without moving the crank arm. I removed the 10mm cover cap and sure enough the self extactor threads are stripped. I suspect they were damaged by the previous person who worked on the bike as i used very little force to undo it.
So does this mean a whole new motor? Or can the axle be replaced?

It should only be the aluminium extractor bolt that threads are stripped, the steel axle threads should be ok once you've pulled out all the debris.
Depends on what motor you have, as to whether you can change the axle, but it will be a nightmare job that the home mechanic wouldn't have the tools to do.
