Hi all, has anyone successfully retrofitted a different brand motor to the specialized? Warranty is great, but having a motor blow during 3 events (onto my 5th now) is extremely frustrating.

Thanks in advance!

While an interesting idea, I don't think this is something that can be done with a reasonable amount of effort.
The mounting locations for the motor are probably different, so you'd need to get some sort of adapter. And even if you had one, the battery probably wouldn't be able to "talk" to the new motor due to BMS/firmware and probably also electrical wiring issues. So you'd also need a new battery that fits inside the down tube. And something to control the new motor, although that could probably be done with an app.

I'd be interested to hear if someone did it, though.

The short answer is no. The mounting points are different between motors and the wiring will doubtless be different.

The long answer is anything is possible with the right tools, skills, determination and sheer bloody mindedness.

Is it likely to be worth it? Almost certainly not.

One option is to install a Vado/Como motor which is still a Brose and should fit. Even though the internals are the same there have been few reports of Vado/Como motors failing. Whether this is due to tuning/software or riding conditions is unknown.

I've found this video pretty interesting:

They also seem to have a partner in NZ, it could be worth a shot if you keep on destroying the motor. It will void the warranty though.
