Removing the handlebar remote on 22 levo

Hi is it possible to remove the handlebar remote and just use the tcu to adjust modes and would I need a blank for the connection on the tcu to protect the connection? For info it’s the standard tcu not mastermind .

My 2021, I removed the switch and since the other end is inside the bike, I left it uncovered. Like you said, I just use the TCU to change mode.
